My beef is more towards how I had to hover over the labs while doing the research, not so much the success ratio or even the quality or runs the BPC I got back. I expected a crappy ratio, so I went in knowing full well. The research took an hour 15 per BPC, so every hour or so I would have had to come back to the POS, requeue, then go back to doing what I was doing, which was a major distraction.

No, you don't have to hover over the labs. Not as long as there is an NPC station in the same system where you can rent a corporate office.

It's not hovering over them in the sense of a fear of loss. It's that you start an invention job, it's done in just over an hour. If you use the same toon for invention as other stuff, you have to go and pause the other stuff every hour and fifteen to complete those jobs and start new ones. I usually queue up 5 at my lab, and then 5 more, and come back to it in 2.5 hours if I'm still on, or wait until I log back on. It's enough for me to hold current, but not really to expand, so I'm building a second invention toon.

So you either have to stick your nose in every hour plus a little, or you have a lot of dead time invention-wise.

@Scrapyard : The POS is there and the corp charges nothing for its use. Missioners (including this toon and another alt) pay for the POS, plus whomever wants to donate to the cause. Going through the NPC stations seems rather inefficient since it costs more to drop the inventions in. (About 12k ISK per run). I just checked the region for stations I could use and I did find around 10 stations with NOTHING in the invention slots. Either way you slice it, you're STILL looking at the hour 15, or 2+ hours at an NPC station of hovering over it, or pausing whatever you're doing to start the next batch, but you ARE correct on being able to do it while at least in region. Also, everyone has to sleep, so, if it were possible to queue things up for a 24 hour period, you could STILL get your inventions done while going while in bed AND be able to do other things in EVE while its working away. After all, you do skill training while you're in bed.

@Arana : Right on the money. I don't fear losing my items for two reasons. First, its not a lot of ISK to be considered lost (We're not talking BPOs here) and second, I'm sitting right at the POS with the hangars open, with an overview. It'd be easy to see who'd steal from me, and, easy enough to hoist them outta the corp. ;) The thing I really don't want to do is open a 4th account just to do invention, or logging in and out of an account as its just as much of a PITA as going back to the POS every hour and a bit.

My invention toon shares an account with a wormhole picket / mag site can opener alt, which isn't always needed. I also just started plexing a third to have a second invention / manufacturing toon.

Dear Krixtal Icefluxor,

The way you make isk via invention is by doing it in mass quantities. A T2 bpo cannot keep up with the quantity that invention can produce. No, invention is not as "plug-n-play" as a T2 bpo and yes, I agree to a certain extent, that the original T2 bpo release was a mistake on CCP's part. However, CCP has painted themselves into a corner in that respect, as there is no easy way to remove them from game without hosing the current bpo owners. Many T2 bpos today are no longer held by the original owners, so you can't say it is "fair" to simply make them disappear.

Now, if you are smart, you can make way more isk through invention than a T2 bpo could ever provide. You don't necessarily just pick a single item, either. If you can't figure it out and you are having no fun inventing, then you should choose something else that you find more enjoyable. I am telling you right now that you are wrong about the profitability, in general, of invention. So please, stop giving me a headache with your blind ranting and go do something else that would provide more enjoyment for you - this is a game, after all. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Percy
