These things seem to be spiking at a strange rate and not just in Jita. At first I thought there might be a simple answer like in increase in the price of production, but then I would expect a similar rise with the Scourge variant.

Anyone have any opinions about a logical reason, or is this just massive manipulation?

I think if you moved this over to S&I with an appropriate title like "Build Thunderbolt Furies Naow!", you might be pleasantly surprised by the results. I'd say that market manipulation is the answer. This sort of thing has been done before.
