So i came back to the game after 4 years and cant find a post or answer to this question so throwing it on here. I was far from pro before i left and have only lost knowledge so hopefully this isnt a really silly questions.

I scanned down a gas site in low sec i cant quite tell how much gas is there and if its even worth me going into since its covered in npcs.

I have no idea what i can use to kill them im low on isk and most of my slim pve skills are in amarr ships.

I can fly a purifier but i cant run the bomb yet so just torpedoes and that doesnt do anything b4 i have to warp out.

What can i use to kill them ? or is it not even trying ?

all my fittings are old and im sure not optimal since my skills are all over lol but any suggestions help would be great :)

even if i lose this site sure another shall show up and i would like to be prepared

if need be i can fly an abaddon but cant afford the ship atm let alone the fitting if i could run it lol

sry for the ramble :)

edit: after some further research i dont even think there is gas in the site i scanned down -_- yay being misleading but i suppose the question should still be vaild having something to clear some site i find as needed may be worth it... blarg no gas thats just silly

You know that there are spoiler sites lik eve-survivak.org which show the NPCs and damage types and dps for anomalies, missions and signatures. Just google what you scanned down and you won't be surprised anymore.

hence the edit as i researched and remembered that still the base question exists when looking for gas site in low sec they will most likely have npcs and i do not know what level of ship i need trained to deal with them ... knowing the dmg type and amount of npcs doesnt particularly help. It does solve the does this even have gas issue however ;). I suppose that may be a question for another section just though the gas harvesters may be able to throw a hint my way as even when i was playing before i harvest very minimally

Low sec gas sites come in two main varieties with two variations each. The actual sites with gas can either contain mykoserocin or cytoserocin. As for how much is in each cloud, the wiki *used* to have that information. Now you can get it here.

The combat ladar (old convention) or combat gas I suppose sites are hacking sites with NPCs. One type is easier to scan down and usually has crap. The other kind is harder to scan down -- it used to be the hardest thing in low sec but sleeper caches now take that prize -- and while they still usually contain crap they also have a reasonably good chance of dropping a few good skill books. You don't have to kill the rats, by the by. If you can tank them out you can hack without firing a shot.

That's correct. You shouldn't have to fight anything in a site where you can harvest gas. Except, you know, players.

If you're serious about gas harvesting, I highly recommend at least a Venture but preferably a Prospect:

[Prospect, whatsitfor buffer]
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Damage Control II

5MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive
Medium Shield Extender II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Gas Cloud Harvester II
Gas Cloud Harvester II

Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Small Polycarbon Engine Housing I

Rakes in gas at 160/min, which should clear sites in a reasonable amount of time. Mobile depot can get you into a decent scanning fit:

[Prospect, whatsitfor scanner]
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Damage Control II

5MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive
Medium Shield Extender II
Scan Rangefinding Array II

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Gas Cloud Harvester II
Sisters Core Probe Launcher, Sisters Core Scanner Probe

Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Small Polycarbon Engine Housing I

Which will of course find you the sites in the first place.

One caveat: gas sales are slow. Like, painfully slow. I'm not sure how much legalizing boosters has bumped that, but damn. I have several Prospects scattered around and find the process somewhat relaxing but I haven't really made any money off of it.
