so I've been wondering, I have a ratting machariel with the utility high and I was thinking, could I add a nos in there for extra stability. now I know there are other posts on the same thing and I've looked through them all and found close to nothing useful, so just to clear this up properly, does a nos work nonstop on rat ships or does it stop working after a certain point

Yes NOS can and does work on NPC ships.
To answer your question yes and no. I have been doing this for the past few years and there seems to be a bit of a random element involved, some ships will provide the cap boost for the entire duration while others seem to dry up if you will rather quickly. Since the whole idea of NOS on an NPC is a nice little boost since they are there anyway I never really look into that much so this is just observations.

Best advice is to fit up one or more and go give them a try and see what happens.

okay thanks, because I was looking at it and there was an officer nos for 40 mil with 130pts of nos and I was thinking is it worth it, also I'm guessing it's almost strictly battleship rats that can support a nos and keep going?

I'd say to look for same size targets. I've used them before, just not extensively, but it seems to work without fail on rats of similar or larger size than you (use large NOS on BS, medium on cruiser and bigger, small on anything). I don't know if that's a factor or just some irrelevant ruling I fabricated, but the only time I've ever really questioned if NOS was working was on smaller ships.

Finally, don't forget that since NOS and Nuets have falloff now, they can be prematurely activated at ranges beyond their effectiveness, which is kind of neat but also means if you use one it may not work at full capacity unless you are close enough to be in optimals, so mind the range.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

okay thank you a lot. if I start having problems with my range then yeah I'll go to the x-type with its >30km optimal, the reason I want this to work is because that allows me to dump two cap control rigs and potentially upgrade my dmg or tank
