Hello, citizens of New Eden!

I am here to furnish you with details of our upcoming iteration on the visual damage system we introduced last year (new shield and armor effects), courtesy of CCP Myrkur!

Previously, hull repair effects reused the armor repair effect introduced with VDS 1.0. We have now added a completely distinct effect for hull repair, visible whenever your Hull Repair modules are active, it looks like this:

We've done some polish on the existing armor repair effects, adding damage outburst effects to both armor and hull layers and introduced racial variants for armor repairing.

Lastly, we have overhauled how this information is presented to you. Formerly, only ships that you had locked would display shield/armor effects. We've added shield ellipsoids to almost everything that can be seen in space and have improved the telegraphing of the visual damage system by allowing any ships within a range to display damage effects.

Please jump on to Singularity and let us know what you think!

What do you think will be the client side affects of this be for large fleet battles? When you add in things like smartbombs, etc. could this not cause massive lag or GPU strain on some systems?

Granted, you can turn this stuff off, so I am asking more out of curiosity.

The new repair effect looks good! Is there a way to make the glowing, damaged embers in armor cool off to gray and black over time?

Kind of looks like a healing spell. Couldn't you just put out the small fires.

I'd like EVE to look more science fiction, less arcade.

There shouldnt even be hull repair in space, unless a ship has stopped moving and is being worked on by a repair ship or something. Or make space shipyards.

yeah that would be cool, i always thought it looks strange when you log in the next day and your ship still looks like its getting BBQed.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Now if only hull rep modules could be viable in combat...

It looks pretty, but with the atrocious stats on hull repair (and remote), we won't ever get to see these fancy new space pixel effects unless we're floating at a pos or someone's got a ship bay nearby we can swap modules out with between lulls in combat. Certainly never going to need one when you live in a blue Citadel who reps on tethering.

Combat-effective Hull reppers for everyone! Let those of us who value our Hull Tanking elite certification live dangerously (at least a little longer than present)!

Seriously though... who wouldn't love actual, usable hull rep modules? Who would actually PVP (or PVE) with hull rep? What ships would you do it with?

Nice addition, thank you

Cloaking is the closest thing to a "Pause Game" button one can get while in space.

Window-in-window for my ship close up please. I don't think I've ever seen my ship damage on TQ because I'm always zoomed out.

It's funny that you mention smartbombs... To get them to apply within the first iteration of the visual damage system from last year we actually had to allow them to apply to all ships within a range anyway, so this system - in terms of client-side performance - has already been active since then. We've just allowed turret/drone/missile shots to be displayed as well.

I wish I could but there are 837806519064490856206060825724527856285 citadels in 6c-z49 that prevent undocking in the first place.
If you would be so kind and remove those, I would be have to take a look.
