Small ships being boring

Small ships can apply 100% of their damage to big ships, but 100% of frigate guns damage is easily tankable by battleship-sized repair modules. So in effect small ships get a damage "reduction" by virtue of having small guns. Meanwhile, big ships can one-shot small ships, so CCP introduced artificial reductions to how well the damage you see in EFT is actually applied to the small ship.

Except for the 'small' issue that BS sized repair modules don't tank that much damage with only one rep (Quoting Marauder Bastion stats or XL ASB stats don't count for obvious reasons). And a solo BS doesn't one shot a frigate with tank.
It's a nice theory though, but the reality is that it doesn't actually stack up that way.

It was always meant to be balanced that biggest wasn't necessarily best, which was fine. However imo the pendulum has swung too far in the favour of the small things.

Now outside of major fleet engagements (and frankly, even then it's a few hulls) smaller is universally better. You can get a 70 million isk ship which does over 500 dps, will move at 4200m/s and still has 13-18k EHP and if it feels like it has a sig of ~65. Why on earth would people fly anything else outside of huge stratops?

There is a delicate line between bigger not always best and almost no point in not flying a small hull.

Give AF an AB bonus and things will start heading in the right direction.

My vote for small ship dominance goes to speed.
At a certain point even webs and scrams become almost worthless because of speed.
Add into the mix that larger ships have always struggled being able to deal with things smaller and faster and you set up an in game situation where you need speed to deal with speed.

Carriers used to be excellent for quickly mauling small ships...
Now they're back to being quickly mauled by small ships...

I can't get past the T1 resists and make a good fit. We have a few guys that fly them once in a while. They get little use because the just aren't that good. Not complaining or suggesting to fix them, just reporting the facts.

I think the Fozzinator was caught up in a kitey armor hac thing when he put the mwd bonus on AF. I don't fault him for screwing the balance pass up, but I do fault him for not correcting it. (nudge.... nudge)

You have a thoughtful post there. Part of the fun of EvE Online is the breadth and depth of ship diversity, of which we see very little, making EvE, as you say it, less than completely fun.

Things that make BS/BC terrible:

A)Warp Speed - you find fewer fights, and cannot choose them. You are a giant hot-drop magnet.

B)Speed on Grid - No control. Grabblers helped a bit but they still aren't quite there for how slow they go.

C)Application - Sure you see people in RHLML BS with warp rigs or something, but that's the extent of it.

D)Scan Resolution - Could have totally scrammed that frigate....if you could lock him under 15s.

None of the on paper positives outweigh those negatives - bigger HP pool, more damage. Now, echoing others, the fact that you can get 1/3 to 1/2 of a BS damage from a Svipul, which goes fast, warps fast, locks fast, has better resits, can sig tank, etc, etc, sort of outlines that no only are big things bad, small things are too good.

The game is no fun when it's only space bumper cars (Re: Svipuls Online).

Vote Vic Jefferson for CSM X.....XI.....XII?

What if damage reduction worked both ways, which actually logically make sense, small ships can't apply full dps on big ships and 100% DPS application only to equal and one class larger ships.

Sure, if we get equal tracking on big guns and small guns then. But we already have big ships unable to apply damage well to small ships in most real situations that don't include massive support.
