Thats gonna be a brutal secret auction, 36 teams bidding on 8 slots.

For an Tournament, i miss the competive character on this pre selection.

This preselection is only based on luck, and for the auction ISk.

It wouldnt be so hard to make an "qualifatction round"

i see no problem in permitting all alliances to the tournament. ccp could start light the event from 1/16 no problem. or make several tournaments with 8 quotes and make realy interesting tournament with quality skill teams and interesting content.
but.... they need money for living i guess and they want people to invest plexes in this tournament

Yeah!.... it is luck to get through the draw amd it sucks of course not to have this luck! Shocked But it sucks even more to try to get into it via secret auction... because it will prefer only the rich guys Oops !!! As the most important event in this game (at least it has been from my point of view!). Something should be changed! I think last year you didn´t get in when you didn´t drop in more than 50 plexes ....
Pls:
Take something like numbers during a period of time: Top shipkills, top solo kills, top points try to find some way to calculate an avarage ... or what ever numbers pvp related you like and those who are under the top 64 will get a place! So those guys who bring the content will be in there!

By my reading of the rules, CCP returns all PLEX invested in the tournament to the tournament teams, so they're definitely not holding the silent auction to line their own pockets.

I think the current system is pretty good. There were a lot of spots open for luck, which does allow new teams to get into the tournament, which is a good thing, but there were more spots for the silent auction this year than there were last year.

Having a qualifying round would be a good thing in the abstract, but that's a lot of extra work for CCP, so I don't blame them for not doing it.

But still a qualification via active pvp numbers (during a period of time / like the time in between the tourney) which reflects all kind of pvp would be the best way to honor content or am i wrong?

I don't think basing it on PvP numbers before the tournament is the way to go. That would unfairly advantage teams that happen to be from really huge alliances, even if very few members of the alliance are interested in tournament PvP.

You could say that instead it should be based off some ranking stat like efficiency or something, but then that can just be gamed, and generally I don't think it's ever a good idea to punish people for going out and getting into a fight they can't necessarily win.

I don't think the current system is perfect, but I think it's as good as we can get right now, barring CCP hiring someone to work on tournament full time or something.

The only thing I'd like to see changed is the way the silent auction is run. I think teams should bid as much as they want, but after the top 8 teams are selected, they should only have to pay whatever the 9th bidding team bid + 1. That way if a team bids a huge amount because tournament is really, really important to them, they won't be wasting extra isk with a high bid.

I think it is better to find some pvp relatet stats than make an isk war. Because allicance tournament is pvp. And if you can find the currect numbers out of the pvp stats you will get those who are most active in this.... and than still they are just qualified but don´t have to run it!

Kills per member
Points per member
Solo per member

this will not prefer just the big once but the active once!

Except them the teams just spend the previous week creating trial accounts and farming noob ship kills over and over.

This is EVE, people will always find a way to game the system.

Believe me, I really feel for you guys. I've only been doing tournaments for two years, and having to go through the silent auction last year almost killed me. So much PvE for so many days to raise the money. I can't imagine doing that sort of work and then not getting in.

Hopefully this year's AT will be a huge success in viewership and we can use those numbers to get CCP to fund dev commitments more, which would open up all sorts of new possibilities.

there still no better way than qualifications. and probably never was. isk war is about who is the best carebear or who have more real money to buy plex. it is stoneage selection. something must be changed. as i almost told in this topic https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6577742#post6577742
if ccp give players tools to run tournaments - they will do it much better than ccp.
