Have searched but bit confused, is Red v Blue the same as Faction war.

I was going to post in 'Warfare & Tactics' but thought this was a better Q&A section. The sticky does not mention RvB, just FW and outdated links to EVElopedia.

Not the same.

Faction warfare is a game mechanic with LP store, medals, and strategic objectives in lowsec.

RvB is simply a hisec war between two player corporations, Red Federation and Blue Republic.

You are right about Evelopedia : CCP abandoned it.
You can use the wiki from EVE-University instead, for example : http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Factional_Warfare.

RvB is a player organised war in high sec. Voluntary rules of conduct exist in an attempt to balance sides, level the playing field for newer players and generally get fair fights. Failure to comply with the rules will lead to expulsion from RvB. It is backed up by a player organised infrastructure which builds and supplies certain ships and modules at discounted prices. Theme weekends and competitions with prizes are run regularly. Being run in high sec avoids pirate entities interferring with battles, but they are subject to high sec war decs from griefing corps on occassions.

Faction Warfare is a CCP organised war in low sec. Normal Eve gameplay governs the conducts of this war. There is a lucrative PvE content driver in the form of FW combat sites which brings sides together (in low sec) resulting in PvP clashes. While all players can enter and fight inside these sites, only FW members can actually complete them and receive the PvE rewards (LP). Players can opt to chase the PvE cash cow, hunt the PvE farmers or just generally join PvP fleets. Such PvP fleets/gangs/soloist will clash regularly with their opposing side, as well as pirates and PvP roams from both High and Null sec, attempting to take advantage of the FW combat sites to find 'content'. The net result is that most PvP orientated FW pilots suffers security standing hits from engagements with none FW players and they become flagged as pirates themselves.

Incomming FW rewamp should give anyone, who enters FW complex, suspect flag. So no security standing hits will be there any more.
