Worth cross-training at low SP?

I've recently begun playing Eve again after a few years away. Originally trained for Gallente. Here's my skills: http://eveboard.com/pilot/GBoS

After getting a strong impression that Minmatar and shield tanking are both currently on top I'm stuck deciding whether or not to continue training Gallente Cruiser V and Heavy Drone Operation V with the aim of flying an Ishtar for level 4's and plexes until I get comfortable enough for PvP, or switch to training Minnie Frig/Cruiser/Med Projectiles to V and cut my losses until Gallente are in a stronger position later on.

Either way, I'm not too deep into either so wouldn't have huge issues with both options.

I also know my support skills need A LOT focusing - I am just looking at short to medium term planning, I won't be expecting any shiny ships any time soon.

The Ishtar is a fun ship for PVE and the Talos seems pretty popular for PVP.

Shield upgrades V so you can squeeze a faux-shield-buffer onto your gal ships and you will be fine. Gallente are doing much better now and there are even more buffs coming. No time like the present to stick with the green hulls. As Mashie rightly pointed out, the ishtar is an amazing pve ship (passive shield or active armor tanked) and the talos is shaping up to be one of the best battlecruisers shield-buffer tanked.

tl;dr: stick with gallente, but don't forget to grab your shield tanking skills aswell.

Stick to gallente until maybe around 20-30m SP, they get pretty good around there and then if you still don't like them you can cross-train but by no means are those 20-30m SP wasted, Gallente use a lot of support skills that are required and useful by any race especially drones.
