Laptops and Shader 3 --Will NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M on new laptop work?

I got sidetracked about a year ago when CCP adopted Shader 3 as the standard. I've been laboring to upgrade my laptop, and I think I'll be getting either a Sony VAIO i7 System with the NVIDEA 512Mb Graphics processor.

My question is: Will this permit me to get back in my pod and fly?

This has grounded me for nearly a year at this point, and I have really been Jonesing. All I've been able to do is keep up with the dev blogs, the news, and turn more and more green with envy as everyone else gets to play, and I can't even watch. Ugh

My other alternative is a Toshiba Satellite with i7 processor on board. I don't know if this will work either.

Help, please help!

Thanks in advance,

The GT520M supports DirectX 11 and shader model 5.

Its not a particularly good card though, its only marginally faster than Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics (i5/i7 cpus). Eve ought to run OK(ish) on it but forget it for games like BF3, they'll be unplayable even at lowest resolution/settings.

Edit - its pretty much a cheap entry-level card and there are two variants, one has a 64bit memory bus and the other has 128bit but they perform much the same due to differing clock speeds.

I'm looking closely at the ASUS i7, with NVidea graphics (1Gb) as it seems to fit all my rw needs as well as running Eve. It's available at Best Buy locally for about $1300 after tax. Their staff (Geek Squad) assures me it should run Eve readily.

Thanks for the help.

Anyone with added comments on the system choice, feel free to toss them in.

You should probably take a look at this site - Comparison of Laptop Graphics Cards

I wouldn't go with anything a sales droid tells you - I've yet to meet one that had the remotest clue about what they were selling. In fact IME most of them just make things up as they go along.
