He probably went to ZKillboard and searched for solo Merlin kills in highsec.

edit:
Go to zkillboard.com .
Search for "Merlin" (the ship).
Click on "Solo".
2nd page (22. July) has a bunch of solo kills in highsec done with a Merlin.
Click on that guys name and you'll see he also lost one.

It's not rocket science.

Actually all aggression mechanics are allowed in newbie systems, what isn't allowed is for older and more experienced players to use them against the naivety of newbies in those systems.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Killboards...

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

1. Caldari Starter System
2. Merlin
3. State War Academy Station

Anyone that PVP's can piece together the clues. Metagaming is a thing in EVE you know.

In-game information is available on the internet, via people's API links, or via CCP's Crest interface. In any case, there are public killboards where details of all the ship kills / deaths are automatically posted by the API or Crest system, and other players can analyze what happened.

People are asking for the pilot's name or solar system so they can go check; from the details you can see how the ships were fitted, and perhaps explain this whole "invulnerability" thing.

All sorts of information is being tracked outside the game:

- EVE Who - pilots, corp and alliance memberships, etc.
- EVE Central - prices and market data.
- Killboards - ship kills, and fittings at the time of death
- EVE Survival - mission and exploration spoilers
- eveboard - character sheets, showing skill points and training plans
- Dotlan Maps - maps, complete with statistics about who passed through / wars / etc.
- Eve News and other news channels - all sorts of news, from official game news to player events
- EVE Offline - the status of the servers, since forever.

probably links, drugs and implants.

Based on his poor fitting skills, probably not implants and as it's highsec, probably not any major drugs. Links are possible, but it seems more likely that it's just an alt with some experience (not tons or he would know to fit micro aux instead of reactor control) or a new player that actually did some research on how to fit ships.

Nothing he killed stood a chance against any properly fit ship. Most of them were missing modules...had data/relic analyzers etc.

However, he really shouldn't be picking fights in the rookie system at all and I would not be surprised if he's punished for it.

This is my thought as well.

Though... being a "newbie character" does not necessarily disqualify the potential use of drugs.
I am thinking drugs, implants, and/or a fleet booster that reduces sig radius (see: sensor footprint). Such a setup would make a Merlin impossible to hit with poor skills, fits, and experience.

True and true.

A ship poorly fitted for PvE doesn't stand a a chance against a ship (more or less) properly fitted for PvP.

And if the guy who was in the newbie system really was a vet in a newbie character, he should have been helping the newbies afterwards by giving freebies and/or information (because that is what I used to do when I went to newbie systems to ruffle some feathers).
This particular situation I would petition.

Actually that's not entirely correct. It could very well be a new alt character of an experienced veteran player. Whether it is or isn't, the situation definitely warrants being reported, especially with the recent introduction of skill injectors.

In my opinion doing suspect baiting / station games in the starter systems is definitely something to report.
