How good are tengus for pve?

After a long time out of game, I've come back and was wondering what to do for now and thought I'd go null ratting or run lvl 4s or do complexes. I've got plenty of isk but not as much direction.

Can tengus navigate null gate camps pretty well with the interdiction nullifier and cloak setup? Are they efficient enough for chaining in null? I left a short time after t3s came out and never got into one but if I go the null ratting route, will it be a good bet?

Tengu is very good for kind of things you describe - exploring null/WH/LS space doing anoms/sites & etc. It can easily refit from normal anom running setup to specific escalation site fit, etc.

However, one thing that is kinda hard is that Tengu cargo space is quite limited and you need lots of missiles if you want to rat/run sites for extended period of time. Yes, Tengu can fit all the subs & mods needed for travel & actually doing the site, but once you put all those extra subs/mods in the cargo with Mobile Depot you don't have too much space left for lots of missiles.

So I recommend you plan ahead and think about how you will re-stock the missiles if you are thinking of long term stay in null.

Tengu has got one big problem. It uses a lot of ammo. And if you take spare subsystems + travel fit, then you almost have no space for ammo.

Ok cool. As for ammo I do have a good resupply plan so if that's the main thing I think I might be all set. Thanks for the info guys!

Tengus can be fitted to be nearly uncatchable even in heavily bubbled heavily active gate camps. Ammo is going to be your problem if you are operating far from a dock.

No one chains in null anymore. Except maybe a noob. I was told it dont even work now, that ccp did something so chaining is less effective. People barely belt rat, as its to much time in warp not enough time pew pewing. With system upgrades and anoms you dont need to scan down everyone does anoms really. Fully upgraded systems will spawn 30 plus anoms at a time And they respawn shortly after you despawn one. So you have an unlimited supply of anoms and dont have to warp around but every tick or so.

I also do not understand the sneaking into null concept. Id just join an alliance in the area. Way easier. Its not like you dont have choices as their are like 100 alliances in null atm...probably more. Also unless you made their red list, CVA space is neutral friendly. You still have to look out for non CVA friendly pvp gangs but you will also have docking rights at all their stations and citadels and they have a lot of them. That will come in super handy.

In fact i would start out in CVA space if your insistent on not joining a null alliance. Its more forgiving space and you can use it to get back in the swing of things and such without being in completely hostile null.

Tengus are so good that even firing non-kinetic missiles they outperform the other T3's in applied damage.

For anom ratting there are better options though, since drones let you afk hardcore. Tengu is king of WH and exploration PvE.

Just a thought on the missile supply issue.
A blockade runner stocked with missiles and piloted by an alt may be an option, if you have two or more accounts and have an alt that can fly one.

Not so sure because I have never used one for this specific purpose but a Deep Space Transport fit with a cloak may be another option, lots of storage space for missiles and mods and the cloak to to hide behind.

There's a complex set up you can use, which I've seen done. But you need very good understanding of the local area & basically life in null in general, in addition to needing multiple accounts.

You need 4 ships for the 'team'

1. Covert Cyno/Interdiction Nullifed T3 (to travel around null & to light Covert Cynos)
2. A Black Op (main purpose is to bridge the ships)
3. A T3 (Tengu here) with covert ops sub to use the Black Op bridge, refit at destination to do the sites
4. A cloaky transport ship (which can also use the Black Op bridge)

I would not recommend splashing out on this 'team' though until you get very familiar with the area you're going to move into & also get used to the whole thing since you say you're just returning back to EVE.

But this can work.
