Kaaeliaa has a point (no pun intended Lol) but I've never bothered with scouting, just checked the map for activity.
Besides, Mastodon can have heavy shield tank and quite small space to move minerals, gank would be pretty pointless.

I prefer nanos over mvd to lower the align time:
