I am Caldari and my name starts with C.

Which is about as relevant as the OP.

Frankly, your name looks Gallentean.

This would have been a legitimate thread to have if it were posted on EVE Fiction.

I swear, if it were up to you guys, EVE would be boiled down to a War of Tanks styled space ship simulator with Hello Kitty Svipuls everywhere. We're all nerds here, and calling someone out for having an healthy interest in the fictional backstory of EVE (and all its inconsistencies and parallels to real world aspects) is a pretty dumb double standard.

TL:DR - CCP when making the worldbuilding for EVE created a faction who's ideology could be summed up with the Copyright symbol....

There's another theory that it's a modified Euro currency symbol. For the same reason-- sums up Caldari ideology.

They did it because the Gallente spelled it Kaldarie.

To hell with those Gallente hippie scum.

Edit:
Though to be serious, I believe the planet (or maybe the system?) is named Caldar in Gallente. The name stuck after a few hundred years of being Gallente.

I know the system is Luminaire, but I feel like Caldari Prime being known as Caldar is familiar... I'll have to look into that.

Caldar Empire was the original name for Caldari State.

Real reason: I'm guessing they came up with the empire names before an exact naming convention for systems.

Lore reason: The C is a possible legacy of Gallentean colonial influence like Calcutta > Kalkata

Probably because that's the closest English transliteration of the actual name. None of these races actually speak or write in languages that would be recognizable to us. They have traditions and racial lineages that trace back to earth peoples and cultures, but they're like machine marks on a very finely etched piece of metal. They tell you something about where it came from what what made it, but few details about what was used or what the thing that did the etching looks like.

For example it's explicit in the lore that many of the ship names have passed down from the original colonists and expeditions, but they have no context or meaning only legends, and the names are translated or transliterated for our benefit since no one in-game actually speaks recognizable versions of our languages, since they haven't survived anything like intact.

Creds to the OP and +1 for noticing an error in the spelling / naming aspect of a Faction in-game.

Course since it's been like that for a very long time I seriously doubt CCP will do anything about it.

A healthy interest in the fictional backstory of Eve does not consist of counting the number of occurrences of the letter 'C' in it's vocabulary. A 'double standard' on the other hand might be classifying anyone with a different opinion as you as someone who wants Eve to be a Hello Kitty simulator.

The Symbology and Iconography of New Eden That's a gem from pre-reddit days. That thread excepted maybe, people in EVE Fiction don't discuss that kind of stuff just for advanced navel-gazing purposes. It's because they have an idea for a story, but it might hinge on some part of the New Eden backstory that isn't covered or fully developed. So before they start writing, they consult with other players for sources of info. Or if that fails, for opinions on how to work with that blank spot in the backstory.

Raata, IIRC.

Thanks! This will be valuable.

Don't underestimate me, kid. I'm counting every letter, not just Cs. And every vowel diphthong. And every consonant cluster. And their position in the word. Hit me up if you want numbers.

Cocaine, fish and absinthe has rather erratic effects on Islenska. Very few places in the Eve 'verse I can actually pronounce.

Forum Rep for a bunch of characters, couple corps and one seriously Lost In Space multiboxer.
