So, does anybody know any actual details about whats happening, or is the tiny paragraph on the updates page all we've gotten?

Thus far that's all we've gotten. We do know there's some kind of hull polarizer mjodule for the Rorq which will basically make it and any barge in range more of less impervious to damage for a limited time (and also stop them from moving) presumnably so help can arrive, but there's no actually hard details around how any of that works.

This is a topic that has been kicked around so much over the years. Unfortunately, it still remains without a viable solution. I certainly don't have all the answers, but i do know the difference between dumb and dumber.

But first... AFK mining. I have never cared for that "style" of game play at all. With that said, I also don't pay for the other players sub and refuse to tell others "you can't do that" or "you need to play Eve the way I think it should be played". Freedom of choice! You choose to engage in a "risky" behavior for the "rewards" you deem worthy, then "shine on you crazy diamond".

The Rorqual and the magical "Hull Polarizer" doo-hickey is one of the top ten mentarded ideas I have ever heard of imo. Think about it!
A gang comes into system and Mr. Rorq pilot yells "help" and mashes button. Does Gang say, "oh you're polarized, we'll come back later". NO!, there is a reason why they are roaming. They are looking for a FIGHT. " Hope you and the misses don't mind if me and my boys just sit here a spell".
Your corpie buddies are few systems over ratting. Are they going to ride in guns blazing to save the day? Surrree! If they are fracking idiots. Can you say "Cyno's up!"
There are many, many scenarios that could play out. But a Hull Polarizer is not a sensible tool.

I have owned a Rorq for many years, I love what it "used to be". It was designed to serve a dedicated role that was difficult or impossible to fill by other means. Over the years as new mechanics were introduced that eroded the Rorqs roles, CCP has struggled and grasped at straws trying to justify the existence of this once useful ship class. Until CCP takes a "big picture" approach to null/low/hisec industrial ops, the Rorqwill continue to be a "wall flower" of days gone by.

Buff / nerfs to barges. We have been through this nonsensical crap so many times. Industrial machines are by nature robust tools designed for efficiency and longevity. You don't see Ford F-150's lined up at pit mines waiting to be loaded / unloaded. Why? that's not what they are designed for. Barges and exhumers should be sturdy and able to hold there own.
I know, I know...it's not fair to the ganking crowd. Bring a bigger gun and more Bro's. Uh hum... Risk vs Reward remember?

Economics. forget the price of Trit, ships, modules. regardless of what you do in Eve, Opportunity cost is the cornerstone of the market, Google it!
Anytime you make a choice to forego one activity in favor of another, there is a cost involved. It is much more than math and accounting sheets, social and psychological factors play just as important a role in the bottom line and economic health.

Either way, I am not optimistic about the forthcoming changes. Past precedence favors my views.

Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never. Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.

Max, that was a great post.

I often read Rorqual posts that I swear are made by people that have never owned one, because they don't seem to "get it", however you seem.

I own a Rorqual, and I honestly don't know what it will take to fix it. However, the "hull polarizer" is by far the worst idea I have ever heard, and I cringed the first time CCP Fozzie mentioned it.

I'm okay with heavy mining drones, as that fits in well with the Rorqual's current drone bonuses, but it REALLY needs to be able to carry a LOT MORE DRONES, like a drone bay size of at least fighter m3 - 1, and something to prevent it from being jammed so it can land reps on drones & miners.

It also needs larger bays, as supporting an ice harvesting fleet is more demanding than supporting ore harvesting.

I could go on and on with improvements ... and I've not even addressed it being nothing but a target outside of a force field.

This^^ I agree with you 100%. I haven't ever owned one just because it is a much bigger cost compared to the reward. Personally I would rather see the Orca get a downsized version of what you mention for the rorq. Make them have the relationship that carriers and super carriers do, but a mining focus, NOT a boost focus.
