WHY IS CALDARI SPELLED CALDARI??

Everything suggests that 'Caldari' would be spelled 'Kaltari' or at least 'Kaldari'.

'C' is the second least used letter across all known Caldari words and system names. It occurs a total of 35 times, making up only 0.38% of the nearly 10000 characters known to be Caldari. This isn't counting the randomly generated names for Caldari toons, because I haven't found a way to export those yet.

The only less-occuring letter is 'F', which shows up 25 times, and get this: 'C' would be the least-used letter, except for all the derivatives of 'Caldari'.

Why the heck does your name not match anything else about your language?

CCP Falcon plz.

EDIT: I looked closer. Guess what? In all those other cases? 'C' never stands alone, it's always part of the letter 'CH'.
'Caldari' and its derivatives are THE ONLY INSTANCES of the letter 'C'. All other words contain 'CH'.

If we go through all the Caldari system names and known words (kresh, Ishukone, bakukki, Ichoriya, etc) there are no words with the letter 'c' (not 'ch') in them, except the ones derived from 'Caldari'. The letter 'c' doesn't seem to exist in the Caldari language, but it's right there in their name.

Fake space language being wrong is serious business.

They did it because the Gallente spelled it Kaldarie.

To hell with those Gallente hippie scum.

Edit:
Though to be serious, I believe the planet (or maybe the system?) is named Caldar in Gallente. The name stuck after a few hundred years of being Gallente.

I know the system is Luminaire, but I feel like Caldari Prime being known as Caldar is familiar... I'll have to look into that.

It's a modern day leftover harken back to times long past.

In ancient mythology, To Caldar would loosely translate to "to fa'gg up - ur g4y", as evidenced by for example the FalCon. HooKbill on the other hand has a proper "k".

TL:DR - CCP when making the worldbuilding for EVE created a faction who's ideology could be summed up with the Copyright symbol and named that faction Caldari, while at the same time, they used Finish/Japanese phonetics to create the fictional naming conventions of the language spoken by the Caldari, that being napanii, which seldomly uses C- sounds but uses K- sounds aplenty.

If you want a list of the surnames for all the races they are here.

Might I suggest an impromptu Jita Monument shooting to give voice to the Caldari people about this travesty?Big smile

It's because the word Caldari evolved from the ancient earth word Calamari. You know, squid and all...

Bah, never mind these philistines OP. Agreed, seems to be a thing in the lore that makes no sense. If it were a film, it would be a 'continuity error.' Come over to EVE Fiction forum, we try to work this stuff out. It's kind of like theorizing about the archaeological record, or what really happened at the Tunguska event. Nobody can ever know for sure, but there's evidence to be weighed and examined.

I would assume it goes by the same rules as to why we call Deutschland Germany in America. There is probably lore somewhere that explains it.. Like when someone said it was under Gallenti control for awhile. But in reality Im sure it has something to do with how things are spelled in Icelandic.

The whole Germany thing has always confused me.
