Speaking of Ore Compression. Make available at NPC stations for a fee

Since we now have FREE ore compression at Citadels, why not also make it available at all NPC stations which have reprocessing facilities, but charge a small fee for the service.

Obviously the fee should be small enough to be cost effective to compress it for refining elsewhere.

Any fee no matter how small will still be higher than Free, so citadels would still have the advantage there.

I'd say for the same reason CCP never added that ability to Outposts in nullsec. No, I don't know what that reason is, but I do know that CCP had the option to add compression modules to the list of available modules for player built Outposts when they stripped the Rorqual of its primary purpose. Instead, they chose to stick will making them POS modules, and now Citadel modules.

This sounds plausible.

Where I'd really like to see compression, either as a trait or as a module ability, would be on the Orca and Rorqual. It would even be in character, with an orca in a belt receiving ore either through direct transfer, tractored cans or visiting Miasmossen, with a miasmos (or transport) occasionally transporting full loads of compressed ore elsewhere. The same can be done in an ice field, making the miasmos pilot's work a lot less hectic.

Onboard compression would also IMO make the orca's ore hold more useful. Incoming ore gets dropped into the fleet hangar, moved to the cargo hold (where it's compressed) and then stored in the ore hold until that is full at which point a miasmos or transport drops by to pick it up.

It already is on the Rorqual, it uses the Industrial Core is all which therefore means expense. Which was silly and meant it pretty much never got used for that purpose, only if the core was already running to give boosts to a large mining fleet.

It already is on the Rorqual, it uses the Industrial Core is all which therefore means expense. Which was silly and meant it pretty much never got used for that purpose, only if the core was already running to give boosts to a large mining fleet.

I know it's part of the industrial core, I've got an alt trained as an old-school rorq pilot. What I meant was that the compression ability stays on the ship and can be used without some kind of siege and that the Orca also gets it.

CCP has already stated they want to urge people into using citadels more than stations. This is one reason why you can clone jump in citadels without any timer. Why would they add a new incentive to use NPC stations instead?

If it's taxed in an unavoidable manner, is it actually an incentive to use NPC stations, or is it an introduction to a feature which Citadels then deliver a better version of.

I've noted that an unavoidable tax can't be avoided. If you can go to a citadel and not pay, then it is avoidable.

Your idea makes both good sense and no sense at the same time.

Two reasons:

First, as someone already said, CCP wants to make outposts and POSes go away. Adding spiffy new features to them is counter productive, both in terms of the end goal and allocation of man hours.

Second, Outposts are part of the legacy code base that no one really wants to monkey with. Everytime they make a change involving the legacy code, something goes haywire, usually after deployment to TQ.

Also, honestly, I don't expect it to stay on the Citadels. I expect it to move to the Industrial Platforms once they are released later this year (or at least for them to have bonuses to it, so it makes more sense to put them there.)
