Hey Guys, New player hereā€¦.

I am looking for an LGBT Community,

In game chat I was directed to sniggerdly.com.

But according to the website, sniggerdly is one of the largest communities in EVE with hundreds of members. I am apprehensive about that big of a community, especially being new to the game. Does anyone know of a smaller group around 20 to 50 members or so?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

We don't segregate ourselves based on sexuality, religious beliefs, veganism or anything else.

Just play and enjoy the game, you're not special.

Echoing what was already said, I've played this game for years and have yet to meet anyone who cares one way or another about someone's sexuality/beliefs/etc IRL. It's fairly irrelevant to players one way or the other (which is a great positive step for tolerance/acceptance/etc, IMO)

I don't see what's wrong with joining a large community, by the way : you will be faster in contact with helpful people and will have more opportunities to learn and attend fleets or whatever you want to do in EVE.

Edit : unless their gameplay or time zone are not compatible with yours, of course.

This.

Also... quick warning; people in this game are equal opportunity asshats. We make fun of everyone and anyone for any reason.

That said... the one thing everyone here will ruthlessly single you (and anyone else) out for is if you start exhibiting "entitlement" (see: "Because I am X that means I deserve Y!!")

So leave your "thin" skin suit at home and prep your cheeky comebacks. :)

No one here really cares about things like that. Nor do we need to know your sexual preference as it is completely irrelevant to the game. The most important thing is you DONT make a big deal out of such things. Also you need thick skin. If you are easily offended, eve is not for you or any MMO for that matter. We pick on each other about various things, its perfectly normal and everyone experiences it.

What alliances/corps care most about are going to be if you are active and if you are going to contribute something to the corp/alliance. The only other relevant things are what time zone you live in and what languages you are proficient in understanding.

Speaking as a member of the previously mentioned group (though it's no business of anyone else where I am in there), just make friends with cool people. I've been in many groups in my life all centered around different ideals and goals.

The group I fly with now has been together for years. Our definition of self is having fun. And by that we thrive. This is a game and to focus on anything else is to miss the point. Activist groups belong in government halls and college campuses.

I should probably also address this as it is a common newbie question... and a good one at that.

Tamdeius wrote:

Not off the top of my head.

Generally speaking... the smaller, more "cozy" corporations do not advertise themselves. They simply do what they enjoy doing.

So here is the question of the day OP; what do you want to do?

This question will decide where you will go hunting for people who have a similar game mentality and/or general community you wish to join.

For example:

Do you want to get involved primarily with PvP?
- Take a look at Faction Warfare. Basically you become an "old school" privateer and play capture the flag for star system control.... but with guns and missiles.
- Build a good amount of currency, research some ships you want to try attacking other players in (hint: stick with small, cheap stuff), move it close to low-security space (0.4 to 0.1 systems), fit everything up, and blitz through low-sec. Attack anything that moves.
- Join a Merc alliance and learn from people with lots of experience. Offer a helping hand as much as you can. Be their "meatshield."

If you do any or all of the above (hint: none of them are mutually exclusive) enough times and talk to the people who blast you to pieces (hint: ask them questions on how you can improve) you may be invited to fly with them.

I just want to second what has been said here already. The sooner that you let go of all the titles that have been placed on you by yourself or by others IRL the sooner you can enjoy this game.

Firstly this is an RPG (Role Playing Game) and as such the character that you play in game and who you are in real life can often be polar opposites. There are people that IRL are some of the nicest people that you will meet and in this game are low down filthy pirates. There are men that play as if they are women and I'm sure there are women pretending to be men. I bet there are strait people pretending to be gay and gay people pretending to be strait. Who you are in real life and who you are in game need not have any similarity to each other.

Further like has already been said in Eve you are not special. You are just another pilot to shoot at or fly with. No one gives a crap what your sexual proclivities are unless it grants them some type of upper hand in game. If you are easily offended by words there are people in this game who will say what ever they think will get you flustered and loose your cool and make stupid moves in a fight. If you flaunt hot button topics that can get you worked up with a simple phrase then that can and will be used against you in the heat of battle but not because anyone really cares one way or the other.

TLDR;
Just play the game and have fun and find others that you like playing with. No one really cares who you are IRL or who you cuddle up with when you log out of the game.

I think I probably understand the rationale of why you're asking this (since I have quite a few friends who are on social media/play MMORPGs who are in the community and have experience online prejudice) and I guess it stems from looking for a supportive environment to have fun in.

I think what's been said by several other people here, is, generally speaking, true of Eve, eg: that there is very little in the way of homo, bi or trans phobia. Whilst it's true that I have, on occasion, come across some prejudiced attitudes in Eve chat channels, this is generally rare (or at least people being silly enough to vocalise attitudes like this is).

I think the comment that I mostly empathise with is the one written by Evi Polevhia. Like her I tend to play with people who are cool and that I have fun with.

You will find characters (people) in Eve who are vile, nasty, prejudiced and sociopathic, I regard these people as the Sith. If you avoid them and look to play with people who are full of light, life and who are cool and fun (in effect, the Jedi) you'll have a great time in the game, irrespective of the RL nature of the people who are behind the characters.

For a newbie, security status can be indicative of how inherently 'good' or 'bad' people are. This is not to say that I've not met people with negative ratings who are trustworthy and/or nice and who have been helpful, but tread very carefully. If someone has a positive security rating it might indicate that they're a bit friendlier, although because people have multiple characters, still be very cautious at first.

If you do start getting harassed, file a petition and block the offenders from contacting you. Life is way too short to put up with bigots and idiots.

Good, trustworthy people are out there though, and we can always use more classy friends, search and you will find us.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. When I die, all those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

If you are asking this because you've experienced prejudice in other MMOs or online games (Call of Duty and World of Warcraft being particularly bad), EVE is different.

In my experience the only communities that are seriously prejudiced against LGBT people (or other groups like people of colour) are corporations that make a career in highsec and try to avoid combat (miners, missioners and the like).

This isn't saying that everyone in those corps are prejudiced, but that a large percentage of them will drop all sorts of prejudiced slurs and I assume that people that use homophobic slurs are quite homophobic.

__________________________________________________________________________

If you are asking because you want to use EVE as a vehicle to get to know more LGBT people in your area - it's probably not going to work that way as EVE players tend to group up based on shared in-game interests, not shared out-of-game interests.

Sabriz Adoudel is a pilot who is on a confirmed list of known gankers (pilots who choose to attack and destroy unarmed miners and unarmed ships, often ensuring their own destruction at the hands of Concord in the process [what is know as suicide ganking] for fun and amusement). As such any statement that she makes should be regarded cautiously and not taken at face value.

The reason she has made this slur high sec pilots and to quote, "miners, missioners and the like" because she is, and plays as, one of the afore mentioned gankers (read: Sith) a group of people in Eve who are dedicated to playing and acting in an often vile, nasty, prejudiced and sociopathic and/or misanthropic way.

Contrary to what she has written, it is simply the stuff of fiction to suggest that, somehow, a group of players who don't indulge in this sociopathic and vicious gameplay have a brooding reservoir of homophobic attitudes. The irony of course is that the the reverse is actually the case, and whenever I've had dealings with gankers I have always encountered retrograde, sexist, homophobic, prejudiced, sociopathic, misanthropic attitudes, not in every pilot, but enough to convince me that there is a huge number of nasty people who lurk in their ranks.

Interestingly, gankers often joke about 'tear collecting' and about how their victims are 'butt hurting', the first is a clear sociopathic/misanthropic attitude, the other is a homophobic sexual reference. I've never heard a miner ever indulge in this or any similar behaviour.

The reason I made that comment is because it is true.

Decent people don't call someone a "n***** f**" (that's one racist and one homophobic slur if it's not obvious) even if they are angry at them. (They might swear at them but not throw around RL slurs).

The number of times I've been called something like that by a, um, client is extraordinary.

By contrast I've not encountered anything like that despite often being on voice comms with other gankers, not even when someone screws up really badly.

My only experience with null entities has been on the periphery of Goonswarm, who seem mostly inclusive but do have a small minority of homophobes. But I'm not actually certain of the culture there because I've never been a member.

Confirming.

In my humble experience, I have seen more non-facetious vitriol and anger coming from so-called "peaceful" / "pacifist" players than from players who actively hunt and gank others.

Sure... the players who hunt and gank are offensive in their own way (nothing is off the table to make fun of), but I vastly prefer it over people who say "I HOPE A DOG KILLS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY AND HAS SEX WITH THE CORPSES" (an insult I received some time ago from a miner I ganked) and actually mean it.
