Look, as I was as surprised to find this out as you are, but there it is: an internet psychologist said so, and who am I to dispute his diagnosis?

Poor Remy and Mal*, I have them both beat.

This is because somehow I am a "sociopath" for daring to suggest that PVE focused players (like me) are way better off understanding that EVE is a heavily PVP-centric game and that it is incumbent on us to learn not only how to pve/kill rats/finish missions/make stuff, but also how to survive against people plotting to spew PVP juice (nasty stuff it is!) all upon us. I get bonus sociopath points for telling people how fun it is to embarrass PVP types while still making off with the space-loot.

I'm a sociopath for advocating this, rather than the carebear norm of continuing to play in ignorance and self-imposed isolation then coming to the forums to lobby CCP to change the game to accommodate said ignorance and self imposed isolation lest they lose access to our 15 bucks per month, which will surely bankrupt those vile Icelandic Vikings...

*As soon as i typed "Remy and Mal" I thought "that sounds like a wonderful alcoholic Beveridge, I shall now experiment with my liquor cabinet and see what I can come up with lol.

Beveridge was a British economist who helped laid the foundations for a welfare state after WWII

How I read through this thread and continue enjoying it

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

I prefer to think of myself as Saruman. Yes, OK, he made a couple foreign policy errors that we condemn from the easy viewpoint of hindsight, sure the guy wasn't perfect and 100% in synch with modern ideas: I think we can all agree on that. But he doesn't get remotely enough credit for really transforming the previously backwater rural economy of Isengard into a total growth machine, and also getting a whole demographic of previously excluded Uruk and Olog communities into steady, rewarding jobs in an expanding industrial scene.

And btw he ended the policy of discrimination against the so called "lesser" races in the military, I might add.

If you think the EVE community is toxic you should try playing sandbox survivor games like RUST etc.

Will you get screwed over in EVE? Probably, but that's what makes this game fun. Many veteran PvP capsuleers will blow you up and then tell you how to be better. Many PvP capsuleers will blow you up and laugh at you. You gotta take the good with the bad and learn from these situations. EVE is not a game that is going to hold your hand. And most importantly, if you go into the game with the mindset of losing ships being bad you're gonna have a bad time. It isn't so much as losing ships being bad, it is more ensuring that your losses are offset by your gains.

EVE 101 - NEVER fly what you can't afford to replace.

Right now as I type my hands are shaking and I lost another ship in low securiti space because of some stupid people at a gate taht blew me up. Why do people do that? Do people have no lifes that they need to sit at a gate all day and kill people? What does that accomplish?
I have made it my mission in life to fight these people now because they make the game terrible and I need to fight them to protect others like myself. This game is all rage and no substance. All people want to do is fight each other and scam! That is sociopathic and evil and they should be ashamed and because of that I am making it my life mission to fight them until they quit Eve. I will not quit until CCP and these players change the game to make it better for us because otherwise they will all leave and this game will die.
I am now declaring war on all gankers and scammers and will not rest until evil is purged from the eden. This is the worst community i have ever seen.

Suddenly, I found tears in my eyes. Welcome to EvE, mate. I love you.

OP, I totally feel you and support your noble goal. If you're like me, you will probably find this emotion won't last and you find so many things to do in EVE to make you stronger that first you will think to be patient and will get back on them someday, but after that you will probably have found your own solid base of operations in some area of space and more concentrate on how to expand your power and fun from there. That's what happened to me, I still feel the same as you and still have the ambition to destroy all who have ganked me, but I now see I benefit more from pursuing other goals first.

I've never camped gates so can't be sure on how it works and what makes it fun, but so far it seems to me these people are indeed losers if you look at it from our point of view. And immorral. And as such, they deserve space death and people like you and me would find great pleasure in killing these supposed bad guys.

Folks will point out we should respect their type of play style. I think we should only respect it for the reason it gives us a goal in eve, to give them the punishment they deserve. This emotion is a great way to motivate you to move forward in eve.

Right now we're still too rookie for them, but one day they will burn and suffer, rest assured!
