We are delighted to announce the rules for Alliance Tournament XIV, as well as the opening of the signups!

This years Alliance Tournament will take place on three consecutive weekends from October 1 to 16. As in previous years, 64 alliances will be able to compete in epic matches for the eternal fame and bragging rights!

I'll try and answer any questions I see a lot here, but some to start.

Didn't you say that the top 16 would be able to buy in last year?
Yes, I did originally when we made the announcement shuffling places around. Unfortunately, we couldn't actually separate out the places to give us a clear 15th and 16th place, so we've had to take it back to Top 14.

This is a different sign up form to normal!
That's not a question, but yes, it is. We had some issues with the normal form this year, but now at least I don't need to chase up executors to ask more questions as you can submit them with your entry.

Why are Blood Raiders ships cheaper?
We're pushing a bit more in the thematic direction this year, so we decided to give the themed faction a bit of a bonus. Blood Raiders ships also help break up the really static tough tanks.

Why no T2 Logi drones
After we banned all combat drones bar T1, they became the dominant drone. This is mainly to encourage some diversity in drone selection.

Are Missile Disruptor Scripts allowed?
Good question. We'll come back to you on that one, but the most likely answer will be that they will be banned (but this is not the official ruling)
Official ruling is in: they're also banned.

Which teams were the Top 14 from AT XIII?
They were:
  • Pandemic Legion
  • Exodus.
  • Hard Knocks Citizens
  • The Tuskers Co.
  • Nulli Secunda
  • Shadow Cartel
  • The Gorgon Empire and Spawn
  • Test Alliance Please Ignore
  • End of Life
  • THE R0NIN
  • Tactical Narcotics Team
  • Triumvirate.
  • Phoebe Freeport Republic
  • The Afterlife.

Any side-bets or sweepstakes on who gets banned this year? Smile

Edit: Can I ask a serious question that has always puzzled me: Why are unused points always given to the opponents at the start of the match? Surely by fielding fewer than 100 points you are already hindering your team, why also give the other side these points?

Sad to see you aren't allowing 3 of a ship, that makes for much better matches in my opinion.

Deploying cargo containers, anchorable items, upwell structures or mobile structures into space is NOT allowed. Dropping regular jettison containers is allowed.

Can we please take a minute and appreciate this one rule?

I have highlighted my favorite rule.

Why is CCP banning people from dropping a citadel in the arena? It takes 24 hours to come online anyways lol.

If someone wants to being an indy or something to drop a medium, let them. It would be funny to see.

Anchor it on the first weekend, come back the second weekend and it's done.
Also, collision with the structure is a thing when you're trying to fly around the arena.

I can't answer for sure, but I would bet its to keep a team from fielding 10 fast frigates, taking out one enemy ship and then playing keep away for the remaining time limits

What's the reasoning behind the Blood Raiders ships being cheaper?

The Camel Empire (Bob Shaftoes) is banned for a period of one year from the conclusion of the tournament (until 2016-08-30)

So .. Bob can participate, right?

I like these rules on the whole - they'll certainly shake up the meta a lot, which can only be a good thing. Some of the decisions seem a bit strange (why are T3 cruisers more expensive now that tinkers are effectively banned?), and I think that continuing to allow AT ships to be fielded at the same points cost as their T2 counterparts gives an unreasonably large advantage to teams that have deep pockets or have already been successful enough in past tournaments to have stockpiles of their own. However, I'm looking forward to it!

Also, because doubleposting is cool - will we be getting tournament practice units again, or a dedicated server to train on?

Why cutting amount of fielded ships per team?
Either you can handle internal practices, or you cant. 20 or 24 ppl - it doesn't make any difference.

You can bring it this weekend as I was hoping to have a go at breaking it having watched last weekend. :)

iirc Nulli broke it once.

...

Once.

Can I get some clarification on points? Do Support Cruisers include EWAR cruisers like Blackbird or does this category still only include the T1 logi cruisers?

What is the cost on T1 logi frigs? 5? 3? 2?

IMO Command Destroyers cost too much. They are not worth 6 pts, especially when T1 cruisers are now 5. That's like saying a Stork is stronger than a Caracal. I think they should be swapped.

So it's legal to fit cap trasfers on Logi and Flag ship?

Is there a valid reason for making T3 cruisers more expensive by 2 points seeing as their ability to tinker has been crippled by the cap transfer changes?
