Traveling through low sec in a fleet and hunting and we grab a guy and I get point on him. Why do the gates start shooting at me?

Probably because the guy was "neutral" to you (as far as the mechanics are concerned).

Keep in mind, in low-sec the aggression rules are the same as in high-sec. You simply don't have CONCORD, the NPC police, or the NPC navy getting in the way.

in a bit more detail as ive seen you about and figure you are pretty new.

In Lowsec you have standings which effect what you can and cannot do and where you can and cannot go (kind of).

Lowsec is home to many people known as pirates. Who have their standing -5. They (if you overview is set up correctly) will be red on your overview.

Pirates have low standing due to engaging neutrals, such as you did and each time they do, be in on a station, on an asteroid belt, any where in Hi-sec or Low-sec they will loose a little bit more. should they pod a neutral they will loose a lot.

The only protection you have as a neutral is the gate guns, however anything T3D and above can tank the gate guns with ease. If you are in a group you may have logi. 3 armor reps will perma tank a gate gun aggro. Gate gun aggro will shift so if you and friends engage a neutral on a gate the guns will swap targets.

Being a pirate means that should you attack one, gate guns will not assist and we loose that bit of protection, that said in the gran scheme of things it makes no difference as we want people to shoot us.

As we are both in faction warefare you need to make sure your overview is set up correctly. By default pirates, even in militia on your side will come up red, indicating they are enemy. Trust me this happens a lot.

Drop me a mail in game or convo me and we can catch up and you can ask any questions !

Shouldn't pirate in corps show up as corpmates instead of dirty pirates with the default overview?

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

Unsure. The default overview is pretty bad.

Regardless, you want "Corporation," "Fleet," "Alliance," and "Militia" status to always be higher than "Outlaw" status.
