Buying and Selling Large Quantity

As the market fluctuates has anyone tried to purchase very large quanities of specific minerals or items at the cheapest location and then take it to the most expensive location and sell it all? Does it yield good profit or am I just better off doing something else like mining?

This is merely a market/hauling/buy and sell discussion but still falls in line with a newbie question so go easy on me. I am still figuring out how the market works.

If theres a specific trick to it it would be good to know because I could get 4-5 people doing a buy and sell run at the same time.

Thanks for your time.

Yes and no, it fluctuates (see price history of the item concern). It has the potential but taxes and fees sometimes eliminates the profit. Mining will be better if you have the time and patience for it, so is building up skills and blueprints concerning on processing, mining, and production to get the most out of it. However, the rare minerals (i.e. ore and ice that can only be mined in low/null/WH) are more profitable but more dangerous.

I'm sure there is ISK to be made this way. I imagine you are thinking of moving between market hubs? If so, you need to manage gank costs. There are usually choke points between these hubs filled with people watching for people like you in the wrong ship.

What you are describing is not exactly fluctuation but regional variation.
Both fluctuation and regional variation are exploitable (in the good sense), as is any combination of the two. You will of course find there is competition from other players if you go into it. Good luck!

Hauling big quantities of minerals would be a PITA. As a producer I know about that ... I'm looking forward to have a setup where I can ship my raw materials as compressed ore (at least Veldspar/Tritanium), and refine with perfect skills at the location of my factories.
