I just started a few weeks ago and using a Tristan fit with an eye on going drones (dominix in the distant future). My buddy who has been playing a few months just started L4s a few days ago and says it is slow going in his under skilled Talos. He is mainly kiting at 60km with 720 howitzers.

Drone range doesn't really extend to 60km it seems but maybe if I change up training to rails and quickly jump in an equally low skilled Thorax > Brutix I can help him sooner than later (and maybe in a few months go back to drones).

So I guess I'm wondering what would be a suitable L4 missions runner that isn't a cookie cutter of what he has but can be effective at 60km?

Talos and howitzers? *shrugs* :)

Tbh, i think before you feel comfortable in using a bs you might earn more isk while doing level 3 missions in a welll skilled cruiser / battlecruiser.

If you don´t want to listen to those words:
Take a look at sentry-drones. They offer the range you´re looking for.

EDIT:
Take a look at the Myrmidon. Propper droneboat with good active-tank. No gun-bonuses on the hull (so you can use howitzers with no regret :P).

That is a misconception, drone link augmetor should give you 20 km of drone control range now pair it up with a SB (so your ship can lock targets this far too) and you will have a drone boat that can operate at ~80km.

More curious than a Talos with artillery is the fact that you thought that this was the best forum to post a mission-running question...
