Ive both googled this and have tried downloading the launcher by clicking on two different links from CCP. Im lost.

The one in the launcher brings me to the "download the game" page and when I ran a google search I found a patch note saying you dont have to reinstall the game just click here but it brings me to the same page.

I downloaded the "launcher" and it wants to install into C:\EVE instead of C:\program_files\CCP\EVE like it always had before (ccp must have changed something), so I gave it the proper file path so it wouldn't install twice. It says that its going to wipe the folder and download / install fresh (although my game is 100% up to date minus the new launcher) so I backed out.

This is obviously not the proper way to do this.

If I wait until the 30th will the launcher just update itself when I try to log in or will it just say the launcher is now unsupported and have the same problem?

I would open a ticket but dont want to waste anyone's time since It's not a bug or anything and I must be doing something wrong and someone here has to know wtf is going on or what im doing wrong. CCP says you dont have to reinstall the game so something obviously isnt right.

Thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong place or anything.

I updated it 2 weeks ago, and I had same concern as you, when got sent to download the game page that ccp provide in the link.

I also back out first cause thinking it must had been some mistake, but when I couldn't find anything where it was jsut the launcher i thought ohhh well lets try it.

For me it only downloaded the launcher when I pushed the install, it went fast and smooth.

So think you should just give it a try.

Hi there!

It asked me to install game in C:/ but my EVE folder is on D:/ with my shared cache on C:/

I clicked the install button anyway and it seemed to detect what was what, no issues.

It will download the game client again.

However, if you point it at the shared cache, it'll just reuse that, rather than downloading it.

The game client isn't particularly large. It's the cache which is.

(it sticks the client in the same directory as the shared cache. it's a means to avoid the issues with updating which sometimes happened, due to permission problems)

Hmm. Well, for me, once I pointed it to the correct folders for the game, it only installed the launcher.

Got it to work. First time logging in since the update as well. Always hate redoing settings but the new docking animation is kind of cool. Didnt fully gather some of the replies until I tried it.

For anyone else having the same issue.

Just tell the game to install in the current EVE folder wherever it may be.

When it says "dont do it, this is a bad idea, we will wipe everything" just do it anyway.

The installer will then find the cache folder on its own (you dont have to tell it) and ask you if you want to use it. Hit yes.

It will then ask you if you want to import your old setting. Do so if you wish. Hit close once copied.

The new launcher will then load and only take about 1 minute to update then you are done.

The game will play like the cache was deleted for a little while (load times) like it always does with updates like this and you will have to reset all of your audio and graphics / UI settings but you can easily import your old overview if it was backed up and any shortcuts are still there.

I think Im going to leave the game music on for awhile. Kind of missed it and it reminds me of when I was new :)

Thanks.

Is keeping a backup of my settings and overview folders gonna help at all or am I screwed on that notion no matter what? Where do I drop those afterwards?

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

You don't need to.

The new launcher can import settings from the old client installs. (and manage multiple besides that.)

Big smile Even better. Well, I do still have the backups just in case, but thank you for answering. Now that I'm back home I'll be running the installer and testing it out. Peace...
