i quote directly from ccp ;

What is PLEX?

PLEX is an in-game item that can be used to pay for your subscription without using more traditional payment methods. By using PLEX, you can pay for your game time simply by playing the game.

so they advertise 9.99 but if your dumb you can pay 16.99 for the same service !! so 2 different prices for the same service Shocked

If you'd bothered to read beyond the first paragraph, of what I assume is this page, you'd have noticed that it also says

Quote:
PLEX is convenient
PLEX is actively traded between players and can be found in every major trade hub of EVE Online. It is only consumed when you activate it, affording you the freedom to use it when and where you need it most.

And more importantly
Quote:
PLEX is flexible
Selling PLEX to boost your in-game wallet and buying PLEX to pay your subscription using in-game ISK are two of its many uses. PLEX can also be used to purchase several account services or even to pay for out of game events and products.

If you buy PLEX with RL cash to pay for game time then you're a fool, as you point out it's more expensive than a sub. However, it has many uses beyond game time, which is why it is more expensive than a sub.

As an analogy, a pocket knife is a knife, it cuts things; a multipurpose pocket knife such as a Victorinox also cuts things, but it can do other stuff too, hence it is going to cost more than a simple pocket knife.

If you want it explained in simpler terms, we're going to have to break out the crayons.

you are thinking of a plex and subscription see as the same thing... they are not.

i'll try a real world example.

You can buy for a house with cash right now, and pay that single fee.

or

you can take out a loan, and and buy a house, paying the fee for the house + interest over time, thus costing you more in the long then if you just saved up the $100k and bought the house outright.

A subscription fee is just buying the house, right now.

a plex is like getting a loan. And like a loan, you don;t have to use the money to buy the house. You can buy a car, go on vacation, whatever. you would still get the 100k but there is a fee and other stuff tacked on for the privileged of using the loan.

A plex is not just game time, it enables you to do a bunch of other stuff with it. Where as game time is just that, game time.

Just get the game time.

(note bad example is bad, but it was the only thing that i could think of that might be equivalent)

im not sure you get what i mean.... ccp say its the equivalent of 30 days when its not 30 days are 9.99 and a plex is 16.99 so its clearly not as advertised !!! get my drift :)

It is NOT the same service.

Purchasing subscription give you game time in a non-transferable medium. The game time is added to your account directly.

The PLEX on the other hand give you one out of a few things depending on how you use it. This, in itself mean it is more valuable because of it's multiple possible use. You can turn a PLEX into AURUM, 30 day of game time, 30 days of second training queue on an active account, you can also use PLEX (2 in that case) to perform a character transfer.

The other things which makes PLEX more valuable than direct game time is it's transfer-ability. It's essentially "liquid" game time which, once again, elevate its value.

If you are only looking for game time, all of this does not matter to you and you should buy a subscription plan. If it does interest you, then you would see the added value a PLEX has over a month of game time and realize this is why it cost more.

If you still can't understand why there is a price difference after this explanation, then you are a dumbass.

I have been corrected about prices in the US but I swear it was close in the past, but I could be remembering wrong.

If plex could only be used for what you say it can be used for... then yes I would call shenanigans as well.

You are forgetting about Aurum. You know that micro transaction, premium currency in game acquired with real world money. For the record I hate it so much Ive thought about unsubbing a few times.

Aurum is created by buying plex and converting it. I like to call it golden ISK.

You can also use plex to activate dual character training... and expect more things in the future.. assuming theyve already added crap I failed to notice.

Even if the math has always been wonky... these facts alone have bastardized PLEX to something it was never originally meant to be thus inflating its real world currency worth.

Even before this, you where never supposed to buy plex through your web browser for RL money to extend your play time, you are supposed to buy it in game with ISK to extend your play time. Buying it with RL money was always intended to be sold in game for ISK. The RL monetary price point is just fluctuating because they are using it for crap they shouldn't be in a subscription game. But RL money going to game time was always intended to be done through subscription.

hi pip's have a few accounts and was thinking of coming back but i just noticed that 30 days of play is £9.99 in the uk but plex prices are £16.99 so im a little confused ?? any help with this as eve site says a plex is the equivalent to a months play with is 30 days ? but not as you can see ?

Did you not realise that Sterling has crashed against the US$? The collapse of Sterling thanks to Britain's 'exit-the-EU' thing means you'll be paying more for imported goods. Get used to it.

The thing with PLEX is that, at it's core, it's a (very effective) mechanism to fight RMT bots and the like. If players know they can spend real world $$$ on a PLEX they can then convert to ISK, why would they go through the (huge) risks of buying ISK from an RMT site and run the permaban gauntlet?

If you suffer from Dyscalculia, EvE might not be the game for you.

£9.99 / 30 days = 0.333 £/day
£16.99 / 30 days = 0.5663 £/day

Expect it to go up in the future, though, thanks to the "Leave" camp accidentally winning.

Also: The many uses of Plex.

How someone can suffer from it, when he have calculator in every computer, damn, calculator is nearly another word for computer. Pirate

Not really. Because you can buy Plex ingame you can keep your account running without using RL money but you need to generate the amount of ISK to buy the Plex. On the other hand if you buy Plex with RL money you get a lot of ISK ingame. Depends what you need more: ISK or gametime.

PLEX has more uses then a subscription (MCT, remoddeling your Toon etc) and that's why you pay more for Plex. Think of a Smart and a Combi. A Smart and a Combi will both get you somewhere but with the Combi you can also transport your whole family or transport big things: That's why it's more expansive then a Smart. If you need just to get somewhere the Smart is cheaper but if you have a family it's not the best choice.

Yes. It's a pretty sweet offer. I believe it's open until July 7th.
