Smartbombing Battleships in Low-sec

Tried my hand at it a month ago, and didnt get a whole lot. mostly shuttles and pods. for whatever reason i couldnt catch the interceptors. What am I doing wrong?

Huola ... gate is also a great place to get both interceptors and cloaky haulers. Sometimes I sit there when I want some quick isk. I prefer the vindi to smartbomb with. It has enough grid to fit a whole rack and fit a reasonable tank. Add a really good mwd and 1 faction web, and you can keep most ships from running away. The web/mwd have helped me dump a few 'elite' hac pilots into the scrap bin.

Has anyone else noticed that 2 faction smartbombs no longer kill pods? I just verified on the test server that no combination of two will kill a pod in one volley.

I think you're the first smartbombing minimalist I've ever met. LIGHT THOSE CHUMPS UP with a full rack. I want to see the outline of their corpses burned into the side of the sun.

What I meant is what is the catch when it comes to timing? My understanding is a mechanic was changed in one of the recent expansions.

Takes some getting used to due to server pings but you wanna be as close to the gate as your smart-bombs allow. T1 meta variants do the same damage as T2. Only difference is range, 5km from the gate for T1 meta and 6km for T2.

Have your tactical Grid up, wait until the line showing their approach is about half way through your 5km ring. Slap F1-F4 then wait about half a second to 3/4 of a second and Slap F5-F-8.

EMP bombs loaded in F1-F4 and Explosive bombs F5-F8. Idea is to knock out shields with the first salvo and finish them off with the explosives. You can't fire them all at the same time as the Server will always register EXP damage first which will do reduced damage to shields. Use your combat log to see which smartbombs are hitting and that all 8 are registering damage with EMPx4 first, then EXPx4.

The combat log will give you an idea of how close you were to killing the ship by the split in damage dealt. For example, if you see 300, 300, 300, 245, 280, 280, 280, 265. Then you know your first 3 EMP took out shields and the last one started on the armor. The First 3 EXP took out all the armor and the last one hit Structure but wasn't enough to kill.

Properly executed you can kill all shuttles, most T1 frigs and untanked / low tanked Interceptors.

Fit extenders and resists in the mids, a MJD is a good option incase you run into a gang who only have long points. Can also be used to no-scope shuttles / pods who warp in at 100km and chill for too long. Fill the lows with all stabs since you are a sitting duck.
