Done beating up rocks. Looking for Caldari role in PvP

I normally play a healer (support) or mage (glass cannon) in other mmorpgs. And even though I played Eve at release for a month way (back when) the grind of Black Desert has finally lead me back here full circle.

In general, once I get to the point I know what I'm doing, I usually like to flex my pvp chops in small (7-10ish?) size battles. Could use some advice as to what roles I could play for Eve. I've read a bunch of forum stuff but I'm stressing from dyslexia after reading so many acronyms that people keep tossing around.

What I pulled out from posts was a Caldari missile boat is a good place to start. Like a glass cannon, blow things up from far away and learn the ropes. So, rather than starting to build a house on Carebare lane st with a Retriever, I put together this Sniper Corax

http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Corax/Fittings

and have 30M at the ready for death by my stupidity or hasty upgrade to a better ship if needed.

That being said I'm not sure what I should do. Join a guild I guess? Run around some low sec (.4ish?) systems and play with rats for a bit? I'm having trouble staying interested in doing station quests for penny's in order to keep my interest in this game going but maybe is a painful but must do req?

Anyway just some advice for what I should do to get my space groove going would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would recommend starting with a kestrel rather than corax.

I also recommend you find a friendly Corp with a willing mentor and as the average well fit frigate will cost 5-10M you need a bigger war chest than 30M.

Flying solo is punishing for inexperienced players so get yourself a team in an active player Corp (and be patient).

You should look into logistics ships. They're the healers of Eve.

Join a militia. Get into open fleets. Fly what the FC calls for. Tell him you can fly a tackle frig - they cost about $2m if efficiently fit, and he'll probably be good with that to start with. Over time, you can adjust to fill a niche the fleets usually lack (that you like to fly).

Thanks all for the advice. I was reading up on the fw stuff and it sounds right down my ally. Burn a few ships. Learn how to play. Then buy a Titan and stomp people. No problemo! Big smile

I love the enthusiasm.

For my ten isks worth, FW is brutal, especially for the uninitiated, particularly the Caldari-Gallente as both are fairly substantial in sizes of fleets and with all that there are a lot of pirates and less than honourable chars wizzing about.

Best way to start is look for a corporation that'#s looking for players that is committed to FW and ask them questions, preferably new player friendly ones, although most will share ideas and assist. Make sure your happy and that your questions have given you a warm fuzzy glow, then sign up and commit.

Build up a popped ships fund and get about 3-4 of the ships you can fly well in a centralised location that's relatively easy to dock and re-supply with.

Bear in mind that some stations will not allow you to dock once you become aligned to certain factions due to FW.

Take the losses with grace and remember they all help build experience (from my kill board i'm super experinced!!!!! What?)

Remember to say GF in local, because learning from the mistakes/ opportunities can help in the future.

And the minute it becomes less fun, ask more questions, re-evaluate and remember it's a game. (Although some of us take it wayyyyyy to seriously)

And fly well Roll

Is this excellent advice.

just remember

FW PVP... no wait... forget FW PVP.. all PVP is a cash sink, not a way to fund a titan,

Having said that, best of luck, if you choice Cal Mil or Gal Fed militias, i hope to see you on the battle field some day,

Yea your gonna need some more money if ur gonna pvp. While plexing is great for grinding lp and then turning that into isk, it is incredibly boring and can be risky if you can't afford to take fights (which it sounds like you cant). I mean you could play scared and warp away whenever someone is 1 au away but nobody wants to live like that. I'd recommend learning some exploration. It might take a few days of training and you will lose a few ships in the process but you can make a lot of isk from data and relic sites.

I would get up my core combat skills. But i would also explore your options in Eve. There is a lot to do in this game in a lot of places. You will need a lot more funding to pvp and honestly being low SP you will die a lot and often though your chances lessen in larger fleets. As you gain SP and fly better ships and gain experience then you will die less often( but death is more expensive)

Income wise, Planetary Interaction ( PI) is a low skill stable passive income. It wont produce a lot of income but once you set it up it doesnt take a lot of work to maintain it. When it comes to killing stuff, its all about efficiency to make good isk/hr.

As a general rule of thumb the lower the sec status the better the isk/hr as lower sec status is more risky. Exploration ( in null) is probably one the best paying professions. Also if you like shooting things plexing and doing anomolies in null can pay quite well. Though null rats will be pretty much impossible for a low sp player.

Personally as far as dipping your toes in the pvp pool i would recommend RVB ( red vs blue). Basically you either play on red's side or blues side and try to kill the opposite side. You will probably learn more there about pvp than in Faction wars.

Soo true, FW is either a repeated baptism of fire or long drawn out hunts looking for people who run off at the first sign of trouble

People have covered most of the PvP side - and I'd probably say RvB is your best Bet starting out.

However, 1 additional piece of advice that nobody ever seems to want to hear or point out:

Stop thinking of yourself as a "Caldari" pilot.

Don't look for the role of a "Caldari" pilot in PvP.

You may fly Caldari ships, they may even be the only ships you fly (for now) - but you owe no allegiance to any particular NPC faction, and unless you are *really* into role-playing and value it above actual game play you are going to limit yourself pretty extremely if you sit around pretending you do. Be prepared to go wherever the game takes you, and keep an open mind towards training to fly some other races ships from time to time *if* you find that you enjoy them more. Similarly, don't feel tied to the Caldari FW faction or to Caldari aligned corps.

Nobody cares what race your character is.

Everyone said a decent amount about PvP, so I'm going to mention one mission thing, in case you don't know.

The money from missions isn't the ISK they pay directly, it's converting the loyalty points to items and selling those for ISK, so if you haven't been converting LPs, you might actually have a lot more money than you think you do.

It also doesn't start until level 4 missions. Below that they are all pretty well worthless, and I'm guessing he is in the low-lvl grind atm.

As other people here have said, don't limit yourself to one races ships.
That being said, if you want to stick to caldari ships; train ECM and stick to flying in gangs. Caldari EWAR is arguably more beneficial in gang warfare than damage application from rails or missiles.

Since nobody has said it, don't undock it unless you can afford to lose it.

I've been doing lvl 4's for a long time and I have to say I kinda get nostalgic for the lvl 1's. 2's. and 3's. Smaller faster ships that I think are more interesting to fly. I mission in a Machariel. If the mission grind is too boring for you though and you can raise a little starter capital then playing the market may be for you. A lot of people do that exclusively and make a ton of isk at it. Plenty to bankroll your pvp career and it isn't near the time sink that lvl 4 missions are. On your other point I agree RvB is probably the best place to get a lot of small fleet fights and learn that aspect of the game.

FW only is hard if you try to solo it, theres always fleets up in the milita channel, join those and fly a cheap ship, youll get loads of fights and decent isk and you will kill a lot more then you lose isk wise.
