I'm thinking same way.
At least some people not stuck in "player must suffer for a profit" philosophy.

I also think it would be a less scary 'first step' to PVP for newbros.

Not sure I understand the rage from players who oppose the concept. I personally wouldn't consider it 'real EVE PVP' but it also wouldn't affect me in a negative way. Would probably give it a shot sometimes, too. Like practicing on the test server but more easy to organize.
It's not that we oppose it, it's been possible for years; what we're saying is that if it's going to be done, it should be organised by players, the rules enforced by players, security from outside interference supplied by players etc.

Eve is touted as a player driven universe, CCP gives us the tools, and in some cases plans, to build stuff, and it gives us the tools to destroy stuff, sometimes they give us new stuff or ways to build and destroy stuff. What they haven't done is take things out of the hands of the player when it comes to creating things like the OP suggests.

If there was enough demand for it, as evidenced by large numbers of people from disparate groups taking part in such activities and groups when organised by players, then there would be a case for CCP looking at putting an official stamp of approval on it, much as they did with alliances.

Currently the overall demand appears to be low, there's plenty of PvP out there if you want it, some of it is literally login and shoot someone in the face, pretty much whenever you want.
Yeah, I see your point. A big organised thing as outlined in the OP would probably be too much interference and distraction from EVE's player-driven wars, skirmishes, hunts and ganks.

It's all about the actual implementation. The dojo idea was maybe a troll but the mechanics seemed pretty well thought out, to be honest.

Make space glamorous! Is EVE dying or not? Ask the EVE-O Death-o-meter!

Would you like to have a go at explaining that to the OP, we've tried and failed.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

There is also this concept. In it's core it so close what it can be implementation things that I suggest.

The test server can be used as a PvP arena.
