You are not wrong - but ironically CCP will use the dev time freed up by discontinuing the browser to continue releasing new poorly-tested "features" which don't match any other game mechanics and introduce EVEN MORE exploits into the game... So still kind of self defeating. Ugh

Who cares about in-game exploits? The exploits I'm referring to are computer exploits that would affect your entire computer. From simple things such as turning your computer into a zombie for a botnet to life-altering situations such as identity theft and having your bank accounts emptied.

I'd take 10,000 in-game exploits a day over a single out-of-game exploit.

The in game browser was pretty limited in scope. To my knowledge nobody ever actually got affected by any out-of-game exploits from it. Presumably they would have sued CCP if they had.

The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool. They lay. They rotted. They turned Around occasionally. Bits of flesh dropped off them from Time to time. And sank into the pool's mire. They also smelt a great deal.

EVElopedia was a wiki, so we dropped the ball maintaining the database as much as they did.

Umm, we don't have access to the Database and those pages were locked by CCP. Hell, they even had the page about Epic Arcs locked and when we asked about updating it, a CCP Dev unlocked it allowing us to update it.

Funny, I'd looked up the scan formula and was able to change the data table for hull bonuses to scan strength. They were... old.

Keeping a browser up-to-date requires a dedicated team. The constant discovery of new exploits cannot be ignored.

The IGB is already badly outdated, and it's an open attack vector for anyone with the desire to actually make an attack, and it wouldn't even be difficult considering how old it is.

Getting rid of it is the best possible choice for both financial reasons and security reasons.

I'll ^^^^ this. I haven't felt that a lot of the recent choices such as 'trashcanning the wiki' were good for the game or playerbase, but I can understand the need to remove the browser if they aren't going to fully develop it like Firefox, Chrome, etc.

Things such as the Wiki are good for world-building and keeping players interested in the details of the lore, as well as updates on in-game resources such as ship statistics. The browser, however, is a different matter entirely, and as Oliver mentioned, is highly vulnerable to attack these days.

Eh. I remember the old thread about removing the browser back in 2014 was met with the gnashing of teeth (many miners, haulers, and WH pilots used the browser).

I guess they could make us alt tab, but for sweet Jesus sake, make more audio queues like ore hold full so we can tab back.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?
