Will there be any proposed Mac workarounds? I know of no reliable overlay tools for accomplishing such task. Perhaps we're just doomed to ridiculous disadvantages beyond what we already live with?

Use Helium http://heliumfloats.com (free)

I can highly recommend it. Just bind transparency to something and set it to 100%.
Have been using it for a while instead of IGB.

Edit: its 10x better than Overwolf with all the extra unnecessary crap.

I'm unable to interact with it when translucency is enabled at all unless I change application focus. Is there a way to bind URL change without manually changing window focus? At that point I might as well just use a browser that gets more than a few FPS in render speed if I have to do that. Apple+L is such a **** hotkey and there's no way to change it, no bookmarks or history to manage.

This app still doesn't solve the link clicking, it just makes it even more of a hassle than just using a normal browser. I can't wait to see how ****** up it is trying to call a browser from WINE.

Its about half of a solution.
