Mission runner ship suggestions?

Hi I've been mission running level 2's in a Corax and now agent level 3's have opened up for me. I was planning to use a Drake for level 3's but forgot about the cost of the ship and fittings while chasing the skills needed to pilot it. Is there a cheaper alternative available for level 3 missions? I've been concentrating on missile skills. I see various missile boats but i'm not sure if they're role specific ships instead of general mission running?

Thank you for your time :)

You could try the caracal but I think some of the harder missions will give you some issues

Try flying the good ship 'friendship' with a couple of other newbies. Might be more interesting while you wait for the Drake skills to complete :)

For level 3s, and with lower skillpoints, the Drake is the only missile boat capable of doing them solo.

Either

1) Bring friends to help you. Dont do a level 3 in a corax. Run it at least in a caracal with friends.
2) Keep doing level 2s until you finish your drake skills.

If isk is a problem, mining and selling the ore might be a better use of time than level 2s for isk until you can afford the drake. Dont quote me on that though, its been a while. Try it out. I think you would need to fly a procurer at the least for this statement to be true.

The Drake is not the only ship. Each race has battlecruisers that are designed for PVE. Gallente Myrmidon, for example, is also easy mode because it's as versatile with drone damage as the Drake is with missiles.

But yeah, it depends on your support skills (armor, shields, navigation, targeting, engineering, etc etc). You could theoretically do level 3 missions with a cruiser (Caracal or equivalents), but you need to be able to use T2 armor/resistances, and hopefully T2 missiles, to achieve the same tank and DPS as the Drake or battlecruisers.

As noted above, though, most missions are easy; you have to kill a few cruisers and a battlecruiser, then loot the hostages and return to base. Can be done in the Caracal. However, if you get the tougher missions, like Angel Extravaganza or Gone Berserk or anything with multiple waves that can overwhelm you, you may have trouble in a cruiser.

The Gnosis is currently price competitive with the Drake and is the ship I used when running level 3 missions. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Gnosis

The ship has very low skill requirements and is bonused for missiles or turrets - your choice. I recommend getting the skills for a T2 tank and T2 light drones before risking it in a level 3 mission.

It's a very versatile ship and I had a lot of fun with mine. This is a limited edition ship and I'm not sure why it's currently selling in the 50 mil range - I sold mine for 90 mil a year ago. Could be a good investment!

If you have the skill frigate V in one of the races, you can also run the level 3 missions with an Assault Frigate. I sometimes use a Wolf. It's of course not the optimal way to run missions, but it's doable and you can blitz some missions, as you are fast. An AF costs around 20M ISK when a BC costs 50. Just don't forget that your insurance will pay less for a T2 ship though.

You don´t have to run level 3 missions just beacause your standing is high enough. You can always stay at level 2 with the corax till you´re ready to jump into the drake.

Don't forget that changing tactics when you are 'stuck' can sometimes 'unstick' you.

If you can keep multiple fitting options open, you might find that T1 cruiser more capable than you think. I struggled for a while with my T1 Thorax choices, but a combination of training up my toon skills as well as my player fitting skills turned difficult tasks into easy ones, I just had to learn how to do them.

As an example, I ran my T1 Thorax up against the Guristas event regularly. And for the first 10 times I failed to complete it. Almost lost the ship many times in those first 5 times. I finally completed it ONCE but it ended up costing me more in ISK than I got out of it. However, I did it solo with a Thorax in a ranged fit. It was not the right ship for the job, but it was possible.

I'm not saying that you can do anything with a T1 cruiser, I'm just saying that they are very versatile ships and if you know what you are up against, you can usually fit to deal with it.

As for mining, it's less risky ISK but you sound like you need some training. If you are in HiSec, I'd run HiSec combat sites, nothing less than a Refuge/Assembly. Just roam and burn them out where you find them. It's good ISK if you are quick about it and it can be done with a T1 cruiser. It will also teach you more and more NPC combat which you need with missions.

Others might disagree, but I'd train a jackdaw instead of a drake. It is a little slower for level 3 missions, but can still do them. It's also a lot more versatile than a drake, so you find yourself using it for more than only missions.

I was actually going to say this, the command destroyers are good fun too, well the magus and pontifex are anyway, dont know about the other two but i hear the stork has a stupidly big tank.

You forgot to mention, that running those missions in an AF is way more fun than slowboating.

Remove standings and insurance.
