I pledge support, as long as your transparency policy holds true.

Should it come under attack, I will undock in its defense, RL time permitting.

Unless you are part of the owners Alliance or a Merc officially part of the war ... Concord will dispatch your ship, should you try defending the Citadel. Citadels in highsec can ONLY be defended by the owners corp/allicance or mercs hired for that and at war with the attacker.

I suppose you can either join the owners' alliance for the defense, or join the war on their side.
I just saw we agree. You already said that yourself.

We'll make it as easy and convenient as possible for people to help in citadel defense.

I'm curious, as this is a general question, what is your plan?

Allowing merc and other pvp corps to temporarily join a Citadel "alliance" in order to help defend it would work, but it would be cumbersome. However, if the citadel enjoys even minor success as a trade hub, there should be plenty enough isk to spare to help offset the costs of defending corps/alliances wardeccing the citadel's attacker.

Defenders in a war can have unlimited allies for free.

There's no need to join to be able to defend it. Interested Corps/Alliances can just ally into the war.

The trick is to kill this thing before it has a chance to be successful at all.

The charity citadel project isn't looking for a fight, but if someone wants to show up and create a sea of wreckage floating in space, they shouldn't be surprised if that wreckage is made up of the ships they flew in with. This is a positive and constructive project, but it is not a carebear project. This is Eve, and everything in Eve is a fight. Good ideas are worth fighting for, the notion of helping others ingame and IRL is an idea worth fighting for, and I've already had plenty of people and groups volunteer to defend the citadel when the time comes. Oh, and don't forget the mercs we'll be able to hire.

If you want peace, prepare for war. Ideally, it will not come to violence. But if it does, our market will soon after be filled with the salvage of those who equated a charitable nature with weakness.

This is exactly why it needs to be attacked.

Nothing will add to a sense of community among the people doing this than a major defence operation.

Looks like no-one here got the mailing yet (can happen when you're afraid of other social media and the EVE forums themselves being near dead).

Defence will be priority one. Some people seem to be under the hilarious impression that the citadel won't have a defense since we're a charitable endeavor and I guess people think charity is weak? Nonsense. We're Eve players, we know everything in Eve is paid for in isk and frozen clones, not goodwill and fuzzy feelings. We do seek goodwill and friendship with all, but we will not depend or rely on niceness to keep us in one piece. Our people, our ships, our isk, our volunteers, our mercs, our belief in a good cause, our willingness to fight harder to defend this dream than any attacker could. That is our defense, and it will be formidable.

Spoiler Alert: anyone who warps in thinking they're going to be dealing with carebears is going to warp out mauled with their face missing. We don't want a fight, but if we're thrown into a fight, we'll be the ones salvaging the remains of the opposition in the end. Pirate

So, has it been deployed already?

I hope you will announce its whereabouts once it is up and running. However, I would not mind if you wait until contracts come to the citadels as well. Their lack is a MAJOR disincentive to trade in citadels.

Agreed. Please let us know when charity citadel will be up, and once it is, obviously tell us where it's located.

For me personally, it seems conceptually like the best alternative to Jita et al. - in high sec at least.

Can we have a naming contest? My suggestion:

Agape

That's the classical term for charity (from a Greek word for "higher love"), but it obviously also has a nice English meaning...

The citadels must be manufactured, so the large and extra large citadels will not be ready for placing for a few weeks. Given that contracts will not be available in citadels immediately, it is likely that widescale adoption will take longer than that. This doesn't faze us, it just gives us more time to plan things out and build a Coalition of the Charitable who are willing to fight for the ideals of the citadel by forming fast response defense fleets, guarding during vulnerability, and wardeccing any group that wardecs the citadel.

As I've stated before, this citadel will be for a good cause, and we will never seek a fight, but that should not be mistaken for weakness. If someone forces a fight upon us they should expect a strong defense at the citadel itself, blinky reds at many important gates and undocks, and hunters throughout the galaxy looking to exact justice.

Progress continues! I'm currently in discussions with some very well-known and trusted individuals to take part in the citadel project and control the isk, so the entire playerbase will know they can trust the project's intentions and believe in its long-term future as the next main highsec trade hub in the game.

I have given this some thought.

I think I might just be willing to cover the cost of the citadel, fittings. and even the first couple of 10s of billions for defense fleets. IF this setup is done right, and in a secure way.
We are a small group of players, that have already been working on a similar idea and we would much rather cooperate on this.

What I bring to the table is: Having extensive experience with EVE markets and trading, PLEX4GOOD drives, project management, running a small WH alliance, good relations with Chribba and other key people in EVE/CCP and the capital to get this project going. Even got the prefect location for the citadel already.

Best thing is however that this will be a PLEX4GOOD project, so all profits will go to a good cause, instead of anyone's EVE wallet.

So send me a mail, if this has any interest.

All the best

Another suggestion: prepare an article to be submitted to the various EVE media sites once it is safely launched, in which you

* announce its purpose, location, and commencement of operation
* publicise the ways how transparency is achieved
* explain how to be able to contribute to deterrence and defence

I am certain more pilots read those other sites, than these forums.

I see you are trying to moral tank your cidatel with care4kids etc?
Not good.. That thing needs to get destroyed!!

What we need least in this game are carebears trying to protect their crap under some charity cover. GO AWAY!
