hey all i jus recently fitted out a rokh

high slot
-4x 350mm compressed coil gun 1
-4x 350mm railgun 1

med slot
-invulnerability field 2
-2x large shield extender 2
-2x magnetic scattering amp 2
-heat diaaipation amp 2

low slot
-magnetic vortex stabilizer 1
-tracking enhancer 2
-3x shield power relay 2

rigs
-none yet

drones
-5x hobgoblens 2

so ok heres my problem, it takes 20 sec to lock onto a target and i see im going to have troubles in the future with the capacitor. i realise that i could get my controlled bursts up higher to help with the cap problem but what i really want to know is what can help me. oh and for those who jus say battle clinic i already know if you max every skill you will be good and have t2 everything and 300 mill rigs and sub systems and what not but im not that rich lol. so yea anyone who could help me i would be forever in your debt, thanks all

Don't passive tank it, use an active shield booster instead (the shield power relays in low hurt you recharge like mad), you've got weird resists going as well. Also, if it takes 20 seconds to lock onto small stuff you need to train up Signature Analysis.

Have a look at this fit to give you an idea, just translate it to what you can actually fit&use. Yes it uses a cap booster, get used to it. Active tank, focussed resists for the mission you're doing. Low slots to increase dps, range and tracking. Rigs helping you to make the cap use less of a handful (you could put in more dps oriented rigs but honestly, the cap use is so ferocious you're better off with these).

i have now fitted my ship with all these but the rigs and the t2 turrets (yet) i have 350mm t1's and i have maxed my Signature Analysis to lvl 5 and it still takes 20 seconds to lock onto a rat in the belt. but i also found i cant hit anything my lvls are:
controlled bursts lvl 3
gunnery lvl 5
large hybrid turret lvl 2
motion prediction lvl 5
rapid firing lvl 3
shrap shooter lvl 4
trajectory analysis lvl 3
weapon upgrades lvl 4
battlecruisers lvl 4

is there anything im doing wrong? im planning to get all these skills to lvl 5 but im not sure if there is a skill im missing that could help my problems

Range. Rails are long range and if you are targeting rats in belts I assume you are fighting them at close range. Long range guns cant hit small fast targets up close you will need to pop them about 40-50k out. With BS's you use drones for the frigs and your guns are for cruisers and other BSs.

Yes, range and tracking. Big guns like that, especially on a ship that doesn't get a tracking bonus, aren't going to hit really up close or small fast moving stuff very well. Find out what your optimal and falloff are and warp into the belt at range (like 30-50km or so). If you want to kill all rats kill the cruisers first before they get too close to you, then BC and then BS while your drones kill the frigs.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

Like mentioned before, Rokh is a Rail boat and railguns are long range. So warp in at range and start shooting away + any frigates should be taken care of by your small scout drones.

BTW, if this is for high-sec belt ratting as you posted you can't lock onto anything in the belt within 20sec.
Please, just scale down. High-sec belt rats can be taken down by a Hulk with 5 light scout drones, so you are using overkill, cruiser will do the same thing as the rokh does only more effective (shorter lock times, better hitting, less expensive ammo). Don't think that bigger is always better, you will learn that it isn't the hard way in EVE.

Exactly. 0.8-0.7 belts can be cleaned in a frigate. For 0.6-05 I would recommend a destroyer (takes much less time to kill a rat than a frigate, but it's also less fun). If you really want to fly a bigger ship in hisec, scan out DED 3/10 and DED 4/10 anomalies and signatures or hop in a cruiser and do some ratting on 0.5 belts. The latter is still an overkill, but you can safely learn keeping an optimal distance, using webs and drones etc. - general tactics against smaller and faster ships. You can also try out different fits (rails and drones) to see what you can expect from different size/caliber guns when NPC frigates and dessies are attacking you. Just try not to hit miners. They don't like that, neither CONCORD (they can get very upset and unpolite).
Understanding optimal range, falloff, tracking speed and angular velocity is the key to success here. Bigger is not always the better. Close is not always as effective as ranged.
