D Scan solo PvP Set up

How should i set my D scan when i am solo PvP'ing. Currently i only have ships filtered so it only shows ships in the area because when i have everything unfiltered it seems to get cluttered with all this stuff and i get confused as to what im looking for or where im going. So i just see the ships in the area on the D scan and then use the probe scanner to warp to different sites to try and find them. Should i be searching for wrecks and structures and other things on the scan as well to make it easier to find ships ?

You can set your D-Scan to use one of your overview presets.

First step: UnFrack Your Overview

My 'battle' tab just shows ships, bubbles and scan/interdiction probes and I generally use that one while d-scanning.

On another note, the fine, near voodoo art of combat scanning utilises both the D-Scan and Combat Probes. Use the D-Scan to get a rough idea of where they are and minimise the time you spend with your combat probes out.

It takes a lot of practice to get really good at it, but it's well worth the time spent acquiring the necessary skills (by which I mean player skills, not skillpoint skills (although those do help)).

A good combat prober is something everyone wants in their gang.

and it makes a hell of a difference.

people like that are the reason bears (and a lot of mercs) are terrified of wormholes

I like to have some basics like stations and gates and forcefields on my overview/dscan as well. I also have a separate tab with moons and forcefields which is convenient when looking for someone in a POS.

I highly recommend using the "old map" in conjuction with dscan like I explain here. I find that method gives much better situational awareness and minimizes the time needed to pinpoint a target's location.

Of course, you run the risk of dropping into a deep depression when CCP eventually forces the new map on you (just the thought gives me chills and my brain does that "lalalalala" thing to avoid thinking about it).

If you're new, you may not know that Shift+C is used to toggle the camera pointing at whatever you have selected in your overview.

Narrow your Dscan to 5* and scan all the gates, beacons, stations etc on 5* to pinpoint ships locations.

A lot of us rebind the toggle to just 'C'.
