Hello all, I submitted 2 different Eve Support Tickets without any reply; was hoping for better support from this game.

Could anyone tell me if my PC can run Eve or what I need to upgrade to make the machine run the game.

When I launch the game I get a black screen; I can find a pull down menu in the top corner to get to the server but it is choppy and unplayable.

It may be a simple video card upgrade, but, I was hoping to know if the rest of the system along with a new video card would run the game.

This is what I have:
WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM (SERVICE PACK 1)
AMD ATHALON (tm) II X2 220 PROCESSOR 2.80 GHX
RAM: 4 GB (3.75 GB USABLE)
64 BIT OPERATING SYSTEM
EMACHINES (MANUFACTURER) MODEL EL1352
NVIDIA GEFORCE 6150SE NFORCE 430

The game runs fine on why older Mac Mini, but, I would prefer to play it from my PC.Big smile

I'd suggest getting more along the lines of 8 GB capped. Looks like that's about all that you can squeeze in with that OS anyhoo.

Video card could use a bump, personally I wouldn't game with anything sub *50. I'm still using ancient 680 GTX. Although, being that EVE can be played on a graphing calculator with the settings all down, gross exaggeration, it may be a driver issue that's giving you a black screen.

Regardless, I usually suggest building a PC. It's like adult legos and are relatively easy to just plug and play. Just need to make sure you have all the parts. This site is one of many that can help.

I have a simillar build but none of the problems you mention ... only difference is that have a AMD graphics card but it's a really old model (HD 5770) so I can't imagine that's any better then what you have.

This means that either: A: your definition of 'choppy and unplayable' is something else then mine OR B: Something else is ruining your gaming experience.

I'm not telling you not to get a new rig if that is what you want but that rig should be able to run the game easily from what I can see (though my PC skills are not anything to brag about).

I occasionally login on an old dual core Celeron, Acer Aspire 1 netbook - it's slow and I only use it for industry, PI and mail (I don't undock) but it works. Not sure what your problem is but the Eve client will load reliably on older hardware - just don't expect much performance.

Your video card is the main issue. From my research its an integrated video card that was released in 2006. Integrated video cards are bad for heavy graphic programs such as games. They share memory with the CPU so the CPU and GPU fight over memory usage. If you have a low amount of memory such as in your case then it really makes performance poor. This video card also does not support directx 10. and CCP is going to be discontinuing directx9 support in the future from my understanding.

To make eve playable on that machine, you will need a better video card. You will have to make sure you have a slot for the card. That will increase performance. More memory isnt a bad idea either.

However, that is a pretty low end computer, so honestly if i was going to spend the money on upgrading it, i would just add to it and buy a new one and use that for other stuff.

Pro tip: Its almost always better to spend more money on something now than to spend the minimum you can get away with. When you buy " the cheapest that will work" you actually end up spending more money in the long run. You have to replace it more frequently and it will barely do the job you bought it for.

My PC is a good example of this. I spent $1000 on a tower in 2010. I use it pretty heavily in graphic heavy apps including but not limited to gaming. I am still using it today and it has not been upgraded. It is still better, performance wise, than a majority of low end pcs built today. I will get another 1 to 2 years out of it easily.

From my own experience, I have spent $500 -$600 on PCs in the past and if i can get 2 years out of them i consider that to be good. By 3 years, if they last that long, im starting to get a lot of part failures and its extremely out of date not allowing to run some new software. On average, a low end pc last me about 18 months and some havent even made it a year before starting to have major failure.

I realize its not always possible to do this. But when it comes to electronics/mechanical items. It actually will cost you less in the long run, so i always strive to buy the best now if i can so i dont have the headaches later.

Did you switch to performance mode? If your card is old, performance mode is best, that should reduce the choppiness.

Also, CCP triages support tickets. So this one might take them a while to get to since it isn't high priority.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

EVE is not really a High demanding game when it comes to CPU and graphics i just game back to EVE a while ago and i have been playing on a laptop for years and still do. Although recently they have improved the graphics and made the minimum requirements more strict. As the game progresses in age the graphics will become more demanding. Although you should be able to at least launch the game and play it on low graphics and it might be a little choppy in places at the least. But since you are black screening your set up might not be able to handle it. I would update all your graphics drivers and make sure everything is up to date reinstall EVE and try and launch it. If that doesn't work might be time for a upgrade i dont think the EVE GM's will be able to help you with this matter.
