Setting up a POS in someone else's SOV

Wasn't sure if this should go in S&I or W&T so it's here.

I'm interested in putting up a POS in nullsec however it's in someones alliance territory. I've run a POS before and have a profitable one up currently so it won't be new for me. Right now my current POS is just 3 jumps into low sec in a sort of quiet place. I use a Crane to ferry materials and fuel so I'm fairly sneaky.

What will be new is doing it in null sec / SOV space. Other than the "This is my territory get out / kill POS", what risks are there and what do I need to know about doing this.

Are there added fuel costs?
Will the owning alliance be informed of my existence? (other than seeing me in local)

Thanks

Owning alliance shouldn't receive any form of notification. That said, people may notice and they will get your pos killed. People also fear enemy staging poses, so they tend to be a tad vigilent in searching.

Also, be wary of warp disrupt bubbles and bombers.

It'll show up on d-scan and probings. Or, worse, YOU will. Any alliance who actually intend to keep their space will probably discover it, and it'll be gone overnight.

Why not talk to the people who own the system and work out a deal for blue status and rights to put up a PoS? They might even defend it against roaming blobs, or warn you when they're quitting the system because of goon invasion or something.

one of the elements of this is finding minerals that are not on the top of everyones list. my question is, which minerals are those, but are still likely profitable?

The CEOs and Directors of corps in the alliance that owns sov get a "Starbase Activity Detected" notification with the location of your POS.

From what I have heard, whenever a POS is set up that does not belong to the alliance that holds sov, they receive a notification saying that a tower was put up. This does not come from my own personal experience, but from talking with a guy who is on our alliance logistic team, so I am fairly certain this information is accurate.

Not only that, you can get the messages in some funny locale!

One of my alts kept getting tower related messages in German when she lived in 0.0 despite I am not German and my client is the default English one.

There are some R16s that will return ~120mil/month after fuel for a small tower (non economic to use a medium), but a blockade runner only supplies roughly 8 days of fuel a trip, and long return trips really do add up.

Also the tower has to survive a month to break even on purchase + the first months fuel, and you need to make multiple trips to set the tower up, and ninjas can only really market goo in Jita. After 2 months if the tower is a dead loss, your total income is 20mil/hr when set against the hauling time if there is any significant distance that requires stealth hauling.

Also the gallente towers with silo bonus are only convenience helpful (allowing you to ignore the tower for longer), for BR serviced towers, they don't save you trips, as the fuel load is the limiter, and they are currently unusable due to fuel cost differences.

Being an alliance member and jump bridging to a tower with a bigger non cloaky hauler, and having access to an alliance market would probably make sovereign space goo mining a lot more favourable for the alliance members than for a ninja, ie what takes you 4 hours/mo, may well take them 1.

Having done a lot of surveying I can even see the exact distance at which people don't bother lowsec towering (or leave abandoned place holders on) the better R16s too, for the same logistics reason.

You see - the problem with sov space is-> whoever has taken it has a power to field so many ships that your pos will be gone in 10 minutes :) unless u want to reinforce / repair it all the time... and its the matter of (short) time when thir titan pilots get bored and decide they will have your POS for target practice before coffee...

Not worth it IMO :)

I.

Edit:

I was wondering why dont u find some nice renting alliance instead and just go with the flow, do ure PI as much as u want :)
