Combat Hauling, and the Search for Han Solo

I don't know if there's a proper forum for hauling, or things related to it, and as I did not see one, I figured this would be the best forum section for it. If I'm mistaken, feel free to do what you do best.

I don't think I'm the only one who's always been a bit bromanced about Han Solo, and have sought in some manner to emulate the character and his particular set of skills, in EVE. The concept of some kind of battle ready ship, that's capable of hauling cargo through dangerous areas (blockade runners spring to mind, in at least in name) has been something I've always been curious about.

1.) Are combat included hauling missions (for agents) even a thing? Grab X, to through gates, etc, on the way to Y, and be attacked by baddies en route? I know absolutely nothing about agent missions other than security, so I don't know what's to be expected.

2.) Other than contract hauling (I really don't want to train for, or fly, an Obelisk) and the station agent, are there other methods of hauling? Is smuggling particular goods from NPC to NPC even a thing? I know how careful pilots are (and rightfully so) when discovering a way to make ISK, so if such a thing really IS a thing, I'm not asking for details; just more of a yes or no, as to whether it's something that's there.

I'm trying to expand on the list of 'Things I've Done in EVE', and the hauling/mining/production side, is woefully lacking. While I may not fully delve into it all, I would still like to dip in a few fingers, and get an idea of the pool's temperature; if you'll pardon the terrible analogy.

I just wanna be Han Solo/Malcolm Reynolds, even if it's for just a little bit.

My corporation posts courier contracts across our region routinely. Low sec -> High sec with volumes under 5,000 m3. I do this specifically to create content for people like you (and me) that enjoy running cargo in and out of dangerous areas.

As far as I can tell such combo missions don't exist. Sure, there are multipart mission with some parts hauling and other parts combat (or even mining). But the parts are separate missions in the end, you either haul or fight.

Mining missions can have NPC attacks involved but defending against them can barely be called "combat" as there usually is no challenge at all and a couple combat drones are enough to defeat them (if nothing has changed in the meantime, it's years ago when I tried a couple mining missions).

Maybe, low or null sec distribution missions can come somewhat close to the Han Solo feeling you are looking for. They are still pure hauling missions as far as the mission itself is concerned, but well... because it's low sec you might get into trouble with pirate players, etc. Or at least it might add a bit excitement to the missions. But they are rather safe if you obey some basic rules and use reasonable ships.

Low sec level 4 distribution missions can be and are probably best run with a blockade runner for large cargo and an interceptor/cov ops for small cargo missions. There are some low sec regions with lots of L4 distribution agents and multiple agents in the same solar system. For example Metropolis low sec is full of those. Just consult the ingame agent finder to search for L4 distribution agents. Benefit of such clusters of distribution agents is that you have a good chance to combine or chain multiple missions which makes for a better payout per hour in addition to the better payout that missions in low sec give anyway compared to high.

I haven't been around the forums for a hot minute, so apologies for the late reply. Thanks everyone for your suggestions and input! It's always fun to push one's boundaries in EVE.
