I've deployed an update to the Linux launcher, version 1046098.

  • The launcher now uses Qt 5.6.
  • Location of the shared cache folder can be now configured by editing ~/.config/CCP/EVE.conf (SharedCacheFolder)
  • Trimmed unneeded Qt libs, for a smaller install.

  • See https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6503381#post6503381 for more details on the Linux launcher.

So I upgrade from to 1043593 to 1046098.

    http://pastebin.com/r0zUVDD7

Then when I close and reopen after the first time it wants to "upgrade" to 1043593.

Could be some caching issue on the version file, I'll investigate.

    CCP Snorlax. THANK YOU!

Saw this link to the launcher in the Linux Channel in Game.

Your efforts are VERY much appreciated. Understood that this is experimental and is more of a side project for you

I will be testing this on Debian Jessie and will provide any feedback. Anyplace you'd prefer for posting any kind of debug output?

Edit: Ran great just out of the (.tar.gz) box. I must have Qt libraries installed for something else on my system. Worked great, staring at my ship in the hanger right now.

Honestly, I'm glad that this is working on here, given that it reduces the problems that could happen due to everyone using different versions of wine across the board, or other issues inserted by using POL.

I'll probably fly my ship for a mission or two in the evening here US/EST, after stress testing system and graphics for stability of this client (you know, so that I don't crash in the middle of a mission due to some faulty driver issue on my end), and will provide any feedback on this.

    Okay, it's updated.

IGB https still works fine for me

Trying to open shared cache folder still breaks, though with different output this time:

This application failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "xcb"
    in "".

Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
    /usr/bin/xdg-open: line 571:  5510 Аварийный останов         (core dumped) kde-open${KDE_SESSION_VERSION} "$1"

SharedCacheFolder setting works fine pointing to the old shared cache.

I fixed my issue with /usr/lib64/libxml2.so.2.

It's a problem that affect Gentoo with libxml2 built with "icu" USE flag.

    to fix on Gentoo, do:
    # USE="-icu" emerge -1 libxml2
$ cp /usr/lib64/libxml2.so.2 ~/evelauncher (or whatever it is)
    # emerge -1 libxml2

Note, keep libxml2.so.2 somewhere to copy back if update delete it and it's not fixed.

Also : The frozen launcher screen bug is still there.. I use to be able to go around it but now it's not working anymore, I have to kill it and relaunch. It append only when I multitask.

Oouuuuh... That explains a lot. Could you please put the config file to ~/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/username/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/ ?

It is closer to the windoze one and thus creates lesser folders to play hide and seek in.

And did you check if the wineHQ staging files from wineHQ 1.9.12 are working better?

The first place I look in are the default wine settings and since I have 2 separate wine environments now I didn't look in the hidden new one.

For now it seems working but after longer sessions the camera cannot be moved anymore due to heavy swapping and you have to relog.

After running the .sh script nothing happens. I run the script by executing:
    roman@Eletiomel:~/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/evelauncher$ ./evelauncher.sh

    I checked the processes:
roman@Eletiomel:~$ ps -aef | grep evelauncher
    roman     6022  4006  0 18:06 pts/0    00:00:00 /bin/sh ./evelauncher.sh
    roman     6027  6022  0 18:06 pts/0    00:00:00 /home/roman/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/evelauncher/./evelauncher
    roman     7487  6559  0 18:25 pts/2    00:00:00 grep --color=auto evelauncher

    still nothing happens. Whats wrong?

The script only works if it is in launched from the launcher folder. I tried to make a softlink (ln -s) to my desktop but nade Sad

Yup, a symbolic link to the sh file didn't work for me either.

But what worked for me was an application link. I use Dolphin as file manager and when i created an application link (.desktop suffix) to the sh file, which was stored elsewhere, then i could launch it by doubleclicking it. I could even assign an icon to it to make it look pretty :)

    Oh thank you!

I miss dolphin but MATE and KDE don't like each other very much Sad I'll give it a try though!

The QT libraries are in the evelauncher directory. Add the directory to your LD_LIBRARY_PATH and it should work.

    EXAMPLE:

    [pua@rook evelauncher]$ pwd
    /var/GAMING/EVE/evelauncher
    [pua@rook evelauncher]$
    [pua@rook evelauncher]$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/var/GAMING/EVE/evelauncher
    [pua@rook evelauncher]$
    [pua@rook evelauncher]$ ./evelauncher 2>/dev/null &
    [1] 16334
    [pua@rook evelauncher]$

Edit: or just run the evelauncher.sh - which should handle this,
