In regards to that devblog posted earlier, I just want to emphasize this point:

We would like to assure the Mac community that we are aware that the current client is DirectX 9 only. This is something we have been discussing internally and we are investigating solutions. The Mac client is something we will continue to support and we have been investing in this recently.

It is likely that any solution we come up with for the Mac will also apply to Linux. I wouldn't be wasting my precious time on Linux if I didn't believe there was a way forward.

Thank you fine sir for your efforts and for posting this thread. When I first saw that on the launcher I just about freaked out. Eve has definitely become a part of all our lives. Whatever would I do with those extra 20-30 hours per week of time if I didn't spend them blowing up? My wife might be happy...but I would feel empty with no Linux eve action. :)

I really hope you keep doing what you're doing CCP Snorlax. I would hate to have to taint this computer with windows :P

Thank you for the hard work!

I had no doubts, Snorlax.

But, well, DX11 is lagging behind in WINE, and I can understand CCP with its desire (and need) to trim the fat. DX9 (XP+Vista) are objectively ancient...

Is there is any usefulness for using DX11 vs DX9? From what I see on the net it's about the same GFX quality and performance, except if you use stuff like Tesselation or other improvment stuff but with most of them you get a performance hit anyway. Gallium even got a DX10/11 state tracker for a while until it rot away as people would not even maintain & improve it, useless, unlike DX9.

DX12, unlike DX11, is great :) But that's because of competition (thank AMD Mantle to bootstrap DX12 & Vulkan).

RIP DX11...

i certainly hope there will be a work around of some sort - moving away from DX all together? :P

though seriously a native client would be lovely (pipe dreams i know) though if the mac client goes the route of not using DX then a linux native client might not be that far off

thanks for the reassurement,

reading that dev blog made me feel like i received a kick in the gut. especially since you have improved the life of this little section of the EVE community so much recently.

I initially had the impression CCP Vertex wasnt completly aware in what state DX11 support under wine is.. basically this blogpost from late last year https://www.codeweavers.com/about/blogs/caron/2015/12/10/directx-11-really-james-didnt-lie/

I haven't been a fulltime linuxuser for too long (feb this year) but i have already made up my mind to not go back and being able to play the MMO that ruined all other games in that genre for me aided that decision greatly.

Thanks again for your engagement CCP Snorlax!

it's such a struggle to find games that are nix friendly isn't it. at least someone(s) in CCP is committed to maintaining some sort of nix compatibility

Thank you for this. I've been on the Linux client since I started (stopped using Windows almost 20 years ago), so it would be really tragic if I got phased out. So far as I can see, the Wine team still has a lot of work to do getting DX11 working.

Please keep up your good work! We're rooting for you!

I was actually livid after reading that announcement, not because we are a minority, but because I had plexxed 3 accounts for 2 months..... right the day before :(

I just hope that this 'change' doesnt happen untill at least those plexxes are used up, and hopefully we'll be back when the Mac client gets the solution for this big problem.

Thanks for your work.
