Question about destruction of my mobile tractor

IMO, as it's been said already:

1. He's looking for a fight.

2. The rules are:
a. As soon as he shoots the MTU, he goes suspect, meaning anyone can shoot him.
b. Anyone who shoots him gets a limited engagement timer; he can shoot back.
c. He can have friends providing off-grid boosts, but any remote repair or logistics ship that comes to aid him will also go suspect.
d. Any of his friends that warp in can't shoot you until you shoot them first.
e. You have to wait for his friends to provide remote repair assistance so they go suspect, before shooting them.

So:

1. Make sure you can tackle him with warp scrams and disruptors so he can't switch to a bigger ship. The suspect and limited engagement flags will last many minutes, and don't prevent anyone from docking up and getting a bigger ship. You have to make sure he's tackled if you're going to engage. Scram to disable his MWD, webifiers to keep him close, and energy neut to disable him.

2. Once he's shot your MTU, he's suspect. Tackle him, bring your friends in, everyone can shoot a suspect, Concord won't get involved. If he brings in logi repairs, the logi will have to go suspect to help him, so wait for that, then attack the logi ship, but you'll need to deal enough DPS to break a spider tank. To do that, bring ECM jammers, they mess up logi ships really bad. Also make sure everyone is tackled so they can't run away and bring bigger ships.

Depends on how many friends he has or what his plan is, you and your tacklers + him tackled + a couple Griffins / Blackbirds / Falcons to dissuade his logi friends from risking their ships may do the trick.

Sigh.

When he shoots the MTU and goes suspect, keep dropping Vindicators/Protys/1200+ dps Mega's on him until all the stuff dies.

Bet he'll leave ya alone after that.

Or just use a Svipul.

AKA, for the fun of it... okay, I'll buy that... this is EVE after all. However, if I wanted to do something for the fun of it in HiSec to blow some ISK, I'd do this with a rookie ship, fresh out of the box with a Civilian weapon and pick on an MTU.

Not only would it have the owner rolling on the floor laughing, I'd add insult to injury and demand he pay me a bribe to let the MTU live. If he blew me up, I'd be back with another, then another, then another... ad nauseum. Once he gave me my bribe, I'd crow to the universe I made a Golem bow down to me in my Velator, civilian grade.

Right. Some good and bad advice in here.
What has been established as fact?

It's likely a trap. That's fine, the parameters surrounding said trap have already been laid out.
Assume he has neutral logi and off grid boosts to assist him, and a better ship lurking nearby to reship in.

This is fine. He still has some pretty severe limitations as to what he can bring to the party.

You do not.

Bait tank that Golem to hell and back.
Call up your friends.
Have them hang one or two systems out once you've confirmed he's sniffing round you.
Now, if he's been targetting you specifically the odds are pretty good he's set your corp standings so he can see if you've got help in system. Friends outside of corp are less obvious and will enhance the WTF effect.
Lock him up, don't shoot at first. The carebear stare always gets baiters aroused. Then blap him if you can.
It's gonna scamper off if possible to reship into that thing that he plans on actually killing you with.
Keep an eye on D-scan for the trap ship's return, when you see it you call your buddies in.

Kill everything. EVERYTHING that he brings. The bait if you can, the trap, the trap's logi, the pods and his pet fedo.
Scoop corpses, send mail asking if he'd like to try again.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

Too much being scared in this thread. It's just a bomber.

Shoot it. Kill it.

No need to be scared of something so small.

That said, I agree. If your Golem can't handle a manticore, it deserves to die.

I'm looking at Manticore fits and I just don't see the price vs. return bait and switch here.

Even a cheap fit is around 60m ISK. EHP is around 2K-4K, nothing stellar.

A crappy gank Catalyst could down this thing in a second or two without point/tackle. My T2 Cruiser could vaporize him in the same time frame at 15K.

So if the game is to get downed and come back with a stronger ship, it's mitigated by just leaving after you clobber him or having friends... all of this has been pointed out though.

With such easy counter tactics, I'm not sure what the bait and switch game is of the baiter though. Would you actually find enough suckers with enough loot to pay for you losing a 60m ISK ship all the time? I know HiSec is low return for risk, but man, that's pretty terrible math and a lot of confidence (or foolishness) on the baiter's part there.

The return is the contents of the MTU. The risk is minimal because you don't get shot nearly as often as you'd expect with a suspect flag in high sec because everyone is terrified of all these advanced bait and switch scenarios. I've flown back and forth from Jita to Amarr popping MTUs and reinforcing MDs in a stealth bomber for hours, suspect flagged virtually the entire time, without even being locked up.

I agree there is no baiting here. It's just a dude in an SB taking MTU loot because he can. Blap the Manticore then dock up for the rest of the LE. There's no conspiracy here...

Never not shoot players who are attacking your MTU, even if you die I can guarantee it'll be a lot more fun and rewarding than the mission you've been doing.

Been i game 8yrs with a couple year break....and honestly I don't think I ever spent more than a day or 2 in hi-sec then...

We set a trap for the guy earlier today with some T1 easy-to-replace gank fit frigs with some speedy targeting scripts. Down side is, he was ready and aligned and hit the panic button the second the merlin and catalyst warped on top of him. They missed the lock by half a second before he burned out...

Have not seen him again. Kind of a shame really.... we were looking forward to dealing with some "consequences" aside from a wardec... Oh well. Next time....

This is a sandbox, one can play it how you feel. That which you and others put forward as the right way is only your opinion.

I have had people come in on me when doing missions and they don't come back, so I must be doing something right. But I am not up myself to the degree to think that how I play is everyones cup of tea. I rather like it that the OP shot the SB, just a pity that he did not get the kill, I just hope the SB player had skid marks on his undies TwistedEvil

When the going gets tough the Gankers get their CSM rep to change mechanics in their favour.

One of two things told him something was up:
1: This thread.
2: There are frigs in this site. Hmm, wonder why?

Try to set up a trap for this guy, make sure you have some friends around for backup and some more friends to deal with his backup. Don't listen to the anti-content people who tell you to ignore him. Be honest this is probably the only interesting thing that ever happened to you in Highsec. Just use some insured t1 hulls and be a good sports about it if you don't manage to kill him.

More than likely this thread tipped him off maybe...or could have been I named the MTU "Behind You"..

The setup:

Dude was sitting in the station we run out of and had just seen him dock up. Seems when he sees me in and out he goes looking for me and my nice cans..

So.... I warped to a combat site and dropped one out..let the drones take their time on the rats. We already assumed he was going to warp from the station @ 100km from site... So the other 2 that were going to jump him waited to do the exact same. When I saw him come in he didn't go to range or orbit this time, he just sat there for a second.

Buddies warped in but he had aligned back to the station right as the other 2 got in about 10km from him. He had just hit the "freedom" button when they stopped and spammed CTRL + Left click click click click click click...dammit...

Twas funs.. He never took a shot at the MTU even though I was doing lots of jumping jacks and screaming "over here!! Look!! Look!!"....
