Rattlesnake L4 Feedback

Been running L4's in a Dominix for a while now and it's painfully slow. I only have 500k SP in gunnery and 2.5m in drones, but looking forward 2 months from now I don't anticipate running missions with hybrids will get any more enjoyable, and I've heard missiles are the meta...

I've heard a lot of people praising the Rattlesnake and after some farting around on EFT I've made a build I'm comfortable with...
But it's my first build that I really want to invest time in, so I'd like some feedback.

It's a good start. Here are a few suggestions:
• When using rapid heavy missile launchers, you want to boost missile velocity to both extend your range and cut down on lost volleys. I find a pair of ballistic controls is ideal accompanied by a pair of T2 hydraulic rigs (definitely fit another ballistic control in the empty low slot). Otherwise, if you use cruise missiles you're good on range and will want to run T2 rigors instead.
• If you opt for a 500MN MWD instead of the afterburner you'll find that you can probably get away without the MJD.
• A T2 Anti-EM screen reinforcer or T1 flare is a popular choice for the third rig slot.
• Switch to sentries. You'll average out with higher DPS (you lose too much DPS to travel time with heavies).
• Consider a Pith C-Type X-Large shield booster instead as you'll have to run it less frequently.
• Consider swapping out a large shield extender for an omnidirectional tracking link (tracking script for Wardens, optimal script for everything else).

With respect to mission blitzing, this is typically done in conjunction with Burner missions to maximize ISK/hour. Most players will use a stable of smaller ships (mostly frigates) along with something very fast and agile like a Machariel or Barghest (the Rattlesnake doesn't really fit that requirement). This Guide will get you started.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

My suggestion is, stay in the Dominix until you have mastery 4. Then train the Raven until you have mastery 4.

Then look at the Rattlesnake.

I would also avoid mixing passive and active tanking, even for a historically mean passive tanker like the Rattler: dump the extenders for an SBA or two and rock with an X-Type like Arthur said (CPU should be enough I think). The Rattler can still passive tank like a champ, but even on it a passive fit requires generally more mids and lows to make it worth it, which cuts into firepower options for both missile and drone. In the past that was okay because the missiles on the Rattler were virtually pathetic regardless and there use to not be DDA's and several other drone modules. Today, there's more reasons -- good ones -- to shave off excess mids and lows, so an active fit is generally preferable for the modern Rattler.

Also, it's not the Rattler's best weapon of choice, but bringing some sentries along can help place rounds downrange faster that heavies in situations where targets are a good distance away. Getting T2 drones up and running can help, too. Remember to focus on Inferno and Scourge missiles.

Cap stable without prop modes and still producing over 1300 DPS with warden II (more with Garde, but drone optimal for garde is ony about 22 km vs 75 km for wardens). Warp rigs can be swaped for something else, but it really seems to me, that having 3 au/s vs 2 au/s is worth more, than anything s else you will get from that swap... Missiles have 93 km range, just as your targeting range.

I see you did not watch the most recent video from eveiseasy

The short of it is:

Missile velocity bonuses are terrible because the range is calculated with "missile flight time" x "missile velocity"

Since flight time is not always a discrete number and the server works based on 1000ms (1 second) ticks, a hypothetical 7.5second flight time will mean the missile will travel 7 seconds 50% of the time and 8 seconds 50% of the time.

So if you add bonuses to your missile velocity, you will just lose volleys on targets you thought were in range.

I don't know if something was changed recently (like since Rattlesnake was changed to missile/drone boat style). But when i used for lvl4s it it was something around:
- lows: DDAs + BCs
- mids: MJD + 1-2 invulns + target painter (if there are more slots then it was LSEs)
- highs: cruise missile launchers + drone control extenders (something like this)
- drones: sentry (wardens or bouncers, not sure about curators)

General idea: warp to mission area, MJD out, kill stuff from range (drones can reach up to 103, fury missiles up to 96km, targeting range is something like 93-100km), MJD to out gates, continue.

Stay with dominix and train more in drone
No reason to fly in rattle without drone skills

Make use of the test server. I test most of my fits their first.

Lot of people seem to like RHML's for some reason. Tested them a few different times, don't care for them at all.

Fit it up in pyfa, eft is harder to see stats, swap RHML's and Cruise, check range, explosion radius, explosion velocity, and the fact that it's easy to shoot a lot of heavy missiles into nothing and make your own conclusion.
