Reddit, because of how it work, is always a circle jerk.

Its been that way for at least six months, maybe longer. I swear the moderators must be dead and nobody has told reddit yet, because a lot of the posts violate the little burb on the side that has the rules for posting on reddit.

The people who post about EVE on Reddit tend to be people who don't care for EVE's own personality and uniqueness, if they did they'd refused to post on Reddit about it and stick to the official forum, this one. It's therefore not surprising at all that those don't really see any problems when EVE turns more and more into a generic MMO (which weirdly no one plays much because they "suck", so why change this one too?).

The fact that CCP Devs seem to prefer posting on Reddit makes it all the more poignant, and telling.

I'd strongly disagree with you on the fact that we dont care about the uniqueness of eve. Theres been a good few times ive seen people claim to be the majority ie against sp injectors and now sp dailies, Reddit supports it and the eve forums stands against it.

On a side note i would reckon ccp goes there, because there are more people on there actively engaging.

You're making a huge freaking mistake if you're characterizing forums. Especially one as diverse as reddit.

Hi, I'm a redditor, probably been one for longer than you, and I disagree with everything you've said.

There are some fundamental differences between the two that make comparison impossible and illogical. Primarily:

Reddit: the 'downvote to oblivion' mechanic
EvE-O: the 'must be a current paying subscriber' mechanic

But instead they are giving out skill points like candy for a task that takes less than a minute daily. I mean it sounds nice but seriously if reverting a change solves the problem...

They want people out in space doing something daily, not just logging in daily.

Oh right, because it's real important that we keep the guristas at bay, or god forbid we fall to sansha's nation and get assimilated into the Borg collective or whatever the hell...

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

If it was about killing a player, they would have issue with newbies. Now "newbies" rolled by a player who already has been playing the game for X years but the actual newbie who never played EVE and don't know anything about it. Killing a rat is something you CAN do from day 1 and WILL do from day 1. Killing someone else's ship is something you CAN do from day 1 but only MIGHT do from day 1 especially for a real new player. Once this problem is seen, you can go to the next one. The current perception is causing problem because people feel forced to log in and kill their one rat. I think the people who think that have issue but I can;t do much about it. On the other hand, the same perception of "must do it" would still be there if it required a PvP kill but at the same time, some people just can't pull it off because they lack the actual players kill to do it. If the player comes on the forum and ask for advice, there is a few possible answer he might get but not all of them will really help him.

1- Git gud. This won't help.

2- You just have to shoot your alt. This will lead to a discussion who might lead said newbie to not only think he NEED to do his daily kill but he also NEED a second account to make it efficiently.

3- Actual PvP advice. Now he's on the good way but there is no guarantee it will be enough. Many people forget what it means to be a newbie now and how things are different when your support skill are not done yet for example.

Making the first one require to only kill a rat is the logical start if they intend to expand on this because it is effectively the most accessible thing you can do in the game. You actually need to put some effort into it if you want to have a character who is absolutely unable to kill a rat. Not being able to kill a player on the other hand only require you to lack something that newbie actually do lack, player skill/knowledge. The rest will follow as long as they don't forget to expand on it. There isn't any guarantee of it because :CCP: but the path is there.

To indicate that we're not impressed, not being impressed doesn't somehow mean we're not going to react to the "respect mah authoritah" silliness . How is that not obvious? Frankly, your reply isn't really helping your cause.

EVE-O became unusable due to its over-the-top moderation and outdated rules (ie, no killmails allowed Roll). It's actually rare to come here and see a front page with no locked threads on it.

My cause? I made the point of both reddit and eve o being very different, ive only responded to certain ridiculous comments about reddit on here. You can have ***** fest or fun fest, cant have both im afraid. Unless you like trolling so i dont really have a "cause"

For the last few months now, moderation here has taken a much softer approach.

Threads are still regularly locked, but there seems to be a tendency to let discussion happen now, on topics that previously would have been locked immediately.

So whether other people's opinions are valued or not, on any side of a debate/discussion, the forums do seem to be letting everyone have more of a say now.

to a point,
theres considerable less put-pants-on-head-set-pants-on-fire type raving about sociopaths been happening
and more focused (admittedly heated and bitter) discussion on mechanics ,balance and game-play direction.
in short we are giving them less reasons to lock and/or incinerate threads than previous months.

its less fun of late.

How damn hard is it for a redditor to follow some forum rules? I keep swearing and calling people retards on this very forum and a few sub forums and I have yet to face the mighty ban hammer or any suspension. The rules aren't harsh at all...

And yet on EVE-O, you have more chance of being able to voice your opinion if it does not fit the line of thinking of the loud majority like you absolutely can't on R/EVE because your post gets downvoted into deletion within minutes.

You could always post your kill mails in the sub forum that allows them... There is no need for the main page to be littered with threads about personnal/corp/alliance attack and spin/propaganda. The real issue is people aren't happy about having to post their **** in the right sub forum.

Wasn't the forums were people spouted nothing but propaganda? Particularly when Bob was the dog pile target?
