Carrier / supercarrier point defense system

So I do know that this has been submitted before but here is my idea. A high slot module that would give carriers a point defense system and anchor them. It would focus on enemy drones then fighters then frigits ext... without damaging friendly units unlike smart bombs.

Idk how much damage per round it should get but not enough to one hit a frig and it would be divided between the targets evenly

Active time of 30seconds
Reactivation/ warp delay of 5 mins after last active round
A fuel requirement that old limit the active time of 30 mins using fuel and fleet bay (I didn't do the calculation because I was debating between fuel blocks and just isotopes )
Cpu and power grid usage of 1% of base
4max targets
25k range optimal of 0-10k
No remote reps or incoming boosts but you could still use your fighters and get an extra rep rate

The skills required would be
Carrier lol 5
Point def system lvl1 (adds 5% dMG and 1 extra target at lol 5)
Point def fuel management lvl1 1% reduction of fuel used per round

Supers would get a role of 100% dmg and 4 extra targets

Any feedback would be appreciated.

lets make it around 100dps to frigs and 1k to fighters/drones and 3 targets no fuel no timer (other than weapons timer) 4 types for damage choice.

oooh even give them fancy names i'm thinking

carriers are not the most powerful ship lol and friendships are great but having an aoe weapon that kills drones/fighters without hurting your friendships is the goal not something that makes you compleatly independent. This just replaces the lost triage mod and is like a capital version of smartbomb.
also forgot to mention a one mod limit.

You can always tell when the meta is in flux when half the threads on a given topic want a nerf and the other half want a buff.

Look. We don't know how the carrier changes are going to play out. The days are young. Give it time. And more importantly, try to use the ships as they are before screaming for a change one way or the other. It would be a far better use of your time to actually get out there and fly carriers in all sorts of different situations than to propose things that may or may not be called for on the forums right now.

oh so its a capital smart bomb? well this thread just got redundant there is already a capital smart bomb thread on the first page. but honestly you are flying one of the ships best built to kill sub caps and you need it to be even easier?

Maybe a thread about making smart bombs smarter by only damaging enemy ships/drones would have been a better idea then a new capital only mod that requires fuel and has penelties. That might break the game though lol

Your support are supposed to do the drone/frig killing for you. Carrier are not supposed to be independent so giving them the tool you want would be absurd. Especially right now when the new meta for carrier hasn't settled yet. Give it at least a month or 2 or large usage so we can see where it is all going.

I think the solution would've been to have carriers retain a drone bay, but with the fighter changes its not really needed as much.

That having been said dreads now have high angle batteries for point defense...

Friendship is the most powerful ship in eve. That's the joke. Straight


If you need to kill fighters, you use light fighters. That's what they are for. If you are going to kill tackle your regular fighters can't already eat, you use support. You cannot have an instant win button.

to be fair w/o support they can't kill anything smaller than a cruisers(how it should be) and they can't blap anything with a proper tank.

but if you do have support gosh darnit they are almost as good as HAW

My Enjerji with two omni-links and a drone nav computer disagree. Liberal use of rockets all but ensures anything without logi support dies.

You see that is the problem with Goons...they can never fight a solo battle.

I like the idea.

I think the idea should also be implemented on Dreads as well.


25k range optimal of 0-10k

The range should be based on skill and no more than 10km with a falloff of 12 km.
