Unexpected "Capsuleer Log-Off Timer"! Reasons?

Hi!

I was minding my own business mining and for days did non interact with any other players. Suddenly while in ship hangar I noticed a red exclamation mark in the top left corner. Read the message: Capsuleer Log-Off Timer. Combat with another capsuleer. I did not combat anyone since I created my Eve account.

What can be the reason for such a message?

Did/were you...

- leave behind a Mobile Depot?
- leave behind a Mobile Tractor Unit?
- shoot any of the above?
- loot a wreck that was yellow?
- shot at by a player?

Thanks for replying Shah!

I found out that there are logs in the Documents folder. I checked them and found out that a player on a Slasher used a warp scrambler on me and shot twice (missed both times). I have not realised that I had been attacked in a 0.9 system.

Thanks again!

Don't fly afk on autopilot, heh.

Next time they won't be so incompetent and they'll actually kill you.

Hi Memphis,

I have no idea what "afk" means Oops

So when I leave the asteroid belt to dock the station I am using autopilot?

How else would I bring my ship to unload? Is there an option to really "manually pilot" in Eve?

Sorry for the noob questionsWhat?. Still very new to the game. Reading lots of info while mining.

No.

"Autopiloting" typically refers to setting a course (usually a system or station) and then activating the "A" button on the lower left-hand side of your capacitor HUD.
The Autopilot function will fly your ship to your destination (including warping) for you. However, it will not activate any modules and when you warp to something, be a stargate or station, it will drop you 15km from it and "slow burn" towards it.

The reason for the Memphis' comment is that...
- Autopiloting makes you a very easy target to anyone looking to blow you up.
- a lot of newbies tend to rely on it too much to get places.

Double-click in the direction of space you wish to go in. The ship will attempt to follow that command as best it can.

Know that in EVE, you are playing more as a starship captain rather than a jet fighter pilot.
Except the "captain" (see: YOU) is directly linked to the ship via a neural uplink... which rests inside of a "pod"... with itself rests in the belly of your ship.

Blood Retributor wrote:

You can be attacked anywhere in the game. Even in 0.9 space.

However, attacking another player without...
- being at war with them (requires both sides to be in a corporation/alliance and one side paying a fee to the NPC law enforcement)
- being in a duel with the player (requires consent)
- being in a limited engagement with another player (shooting a player who is listed as "shoot on sight")

... will result in the offender being nuked by the NPC police.

However some players make a game or even a profession of this. They will shoot at other players in the hopes of blowing them up before the NPC police blows THEM up... then have a friend scoop the loot.
The hope is that the loot from your ship will pay off the offender's ship that was blown up (but sometimes it can be strictly for "funsies")

Bear in mind that this only applies in high-security space: 1.0 to 0.5 systems.

In low-security space (0.4 to 0.1 systems), null-security space (0.0 to -1.0 systems), and wormhole space (-1.0 systems) there is no police presence to discourage would-be attackers.

All in all... it looks like someone took a pot shot at you to see what would happen. And they most likely paid the price with their ship.

Your best defenses are...
- to keep moving at all times (makes it harder to apply damage against your ship).

- maintain a stiff tank (boosters or repairers won't help, you want to bulk up your HP with ship mods that increase HP and damage resistance levels).
NOTE: there are some ship mods that will decrease your ship's HP levels. These include Cargohold Expanders and/or Nanofiber Structures.

- don't fly with equipment or cargo that is TOO valuable (see: the value of your loot does not exceed the cost of the attacking ships required to gank you).

If someone warp scrammed you and you never noticed it, that means you were mining while away from the keyboard(AFK) or with your eve screen minimized or something.

This is generally a bad thing to do, as it makes you an easy target to kill.

Anyone can attack you in any system so be careful. If its a cheap ship, then great, but sometimes you can be in a very very expensive ship and lose it all.

Thank you Shah!

That is really useful information for me.

I usually do not use expressions like "you rock", but you really do Big smile!

I am still too "chicken" to get out of hi-sec systems for now. I spend most of my time reading eveonline forums and many other resources (while mining), wherever I can find some useful information.

Did not even have a military ship until a couple of hours ago. Got a Talwar from Mike with his Magic school bus Lol! He encouraged me to get out there and be shot at Big smile!

Thanks again Shah!

No problem. I aim to inform to the best of my abilities (also, I know too much).

And don't be chicken! I mean... what do you have to lose? You have a free ship. Basic equipment is cheap enough. Take out insurance on it and go exploring through the land of low-sec. Shoot something while you are there! Convo the people who kill you and ask how you can be better.

My recommendation is to learn how to do some basic PvP before you really settle into industry or PvE. The tricks and tactics you learn to hunt people is incredibly valuable experience and information... and will help you find ways to ensure your own safety.

Yep.

OP - just so you know, my friends in CODE. alliance *love* blowing up people autopiloting in highsec. We lose the ship we attack with, but if we kill you half your cargo and fitted modules will drop as loot.

Additionally, some big market manipulators and wealthy, bored nullsec players donate large amounts of ISK to our cause just to watch highsec burn.

Just a note - even as a rookie player you can quite quickly get involved in ganking if you want. The skills you will need to be able to kill mining ships in cheap Destroyers are accessible in just a few hours of focused training, and there's nothing quite like the feeling of blowing up a ship that's worth 10 times your entire wealth in EVE using a cheap low-skilled Catalyst.

Hi Sabriz,

Thank you for your post!

It actually gave me purpose in Eve. It would be out of topic if I discuss what I mean in here, so I will create another topic with my thoughts. You are welcome to check it out.

I will either edit this post to include the link to the new post or add another one. So if you are interested please check back a little bit later.
