Are you not able to cancel? If not, are you on the latest launcher version (1037417) ?

Ugh, same crap again. 2 weeks since the last cluster,. and apparently no responses or changes have been made. First time I restarted the launcher roughly 300 times, reinstalled (which took forever since I download everything) and wasn't able to play for like 3 days. Now, same garbage again. Eats all system resources, freezes at 100%, cancelling just freezes the client, etc.

Launcher version is 1037417.

FIX THIS CRAP.

CCP Snorlax, I let it run to the end, but it stopped about 20 files (out of 76,000+) from the end and just hung. I hit Cancel and yeah, I was able to log in. Missed all the fun yesterday sadly. When I have tried to use Cancel before it has just given me the spinning ball and I've had to keep restarting. The launcher is 1037417. I made the switch to Wine a few weeks ago without any issues and it seems much smoother overall. I also have it set to download all files locally, which also seemed to help.

Thank you for responding.

Can you send me the launcher logs? Go to the View menu, Reveal in Finder, Launcher logs and put all the files there in a Dropbox or Google Drive and send me a link in EVE mail.

We've not been able to reproduce this inhouse - the process can take a long time but we've always been able to cancel, but I'll do my best to figure out why this is happening for some players, still.

I think one of the main problems is that this verification process leaks memory like no one's business and then, once it uses up all the available memory, chugs like hell.

If you have a program like MemoryFree2, you can monitor the memory leak (the blue "InActive" memory) and, once it takes up all the Free memory (which it will), clear it.

It seems that the process DOES complete, given enough time. It just gives absolutely no indication that it's doing so. It looks like it's hanging, and will sit there looking like it's hanging for a very, very long time (especially if it's used up all the available memory).

basically, if you're getting this issue (and I got it again today), just let it run. don't force quit, don't reboot. clear the memory if you get a chance, but mainly just let it run and go do something else for 30-60 minutes. (yes that's a ridiculous amount of time, but unfortunately that's the solution atm.)

I'm still looking into this. I've not seen this take anywhere near this long on any machine I've tested on inhouse, but the hint about memory usage is a good clue. I'll see if I can plug that leak, then this should be more stable and finish quicker.

We've not been able to reproduce a memory leak in this operation. I guess I'll resort to adding a setting to allow you to disable this - expect an update early next week. Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Interesting. Memory leaks have been a pretty big issue for the Mac client since... I think it was Inferno? One of the expansions of that era first introduced huge memory leak issues, and there's almost always been some memory-leak related issue on the front page of the Mac forums since then. If you guys are having problems replicating the leaks, that does explain why it's such a long standing series of bugs.

For the record, I've been playing EVE on three different macs (two iMacs and a laptop) over the years, and they've all experienced these issues.

Thanks for the upcoming fix! Please consider making auto-verification turned off as the default option, as 99% of players don't read the forums or patch notes and will have no idea it exists.

I was referring specifically to a memory leak in the launcher, in the verify/purge operation.

Launcher: 1037414 GUI: 1.911

I'm getting the same message and it takes about 5 minutes but the "purge" finishes without issue.

Hey guys!

I ran into this issue with a fresh install this morning. I downloaded the current Mac client from the website directly and the "Verifying content" seemed to pop up after I logged into the launcher and clicked the arrow to start the client. Both times after I clicked the arrow, it popped up, but it finished verifying both times.

Let me know if I can help!
