How do you pronounce Jita?

I've always used "jeetah", however, in the Clear Skies movie, one of the characters pronounces it as "jittah".

The hard C pronunciation of Cerberus sounds weird when you shorten it, 'OMG it's a HML curb'

Although, I guess the upside is that 'curbstomping' can be literally getting stomped with Cerburii

It is amazing to see how English morphs and changes to the needs of the user. This discussion reminds me of the Monte Python skit where a fellow had a name pronounced Thruntwarbler Mangrove, but spelled it Luxury Yacht!

If it's Greek then what's the plural form?

There once was a ganker named tisi

A stunningly beautiful missy

To gank a gross miner

There is nothing finer, cept when they get all pissy

I'm dizzy. I need to sit down. I am sitting down.

In Latin the C gets the hard K-ish sound. So, yeah, the reference to the Boston Basketball team gets passed around a lot. Caesar...(Kai-sar) named them the Celts (kelts). He was Roman so...it'd get his pronunciation. I have no idea what drives the arrogance of my people to butcher things like this, then claim they're right ... just because it's them, I guess.

Same with the parts of the brain, I imagine. Cerebellum. Cerebrum. . . except in the US OF COURSE - and I'm pretty sure in the UK at this point. Lord knows how they've trashed subject/verb agreement.

Manchester United have... "Wait. It's just one team. It's singular. It'd be 'Manchester United has...."

"No. We like to think of the team as being made up of a group of people so it's plural."

"So, what you like to think gets to rewrite the rules of English...."

"Smile"

(actual conversation here on this forum)

SO...since there are no RULES anymore, pronounce it how you damn-well please.

If we get chased by zombies, I'm tripping you.

Latin is Cerberus, greek would be Kerberos

Cerberus was the three headed, greek hellhound, the overseer of the underworld Portal.

Plural form is then Cerberi

Cerberus is the Latin adaptation of the Greek Kerberos, so Cerberus follows the Latin pronunciation rules.

C is pronounced K in Latin when it's followed by anything other than e or i. Caesar is an example, and that's why they do the ae, in order to force the Kaiser pronunciation. However ce or ci are pronounced che or chi in Latin, for example la dolce vita.

Thus Cerberus is Cherberus.

If the C word gets posted any more times, you're going to summon it, you know.
