Under fire? Which fire? There is nearly 0 fire in the rookie starter systems and the surrounding areas. In fact, the rookie starter systems with all the restrictions in place are already a lot like what this thread asks for.

You take the term "under fire" far to literally thinking that I mean being shot at. Under fire is also a term oft used to describe things like learning a new job while you are doing it, or trying to learn a complex game UI like EvE while you are exposed to the full lunacy that often is EvE even if you are not being shot at.

On the other hand, there are also so many incompetent new players asking stupid questions like "How do I leave a system" when there are Stargates listed on your overview. You can have the best tutorial in the world; however, it cannot compensate for general denseness.

I agree with you stupid is as stupid does and nothing anyone can do will ever change that. However to say that we do not need a better tutorial system in this game because there are those that will not use it or those who are to "dense" as you put it to benefit from them is it's own special brand of dense.

I have been playing computer games since the original Pong was released in the early 1970's and EvE has perhaps the steepest learning curve of any game I have ever tried and it has one of if not the worst tutorials I have ever experienced. Combine these two and there is no doubt how and why we lose some of the new players before they even complete the trial. EvE is not a game for everyone and I like it that way, what I do not like about EvE is the number of players I have seen over the years that just give up in disgust and quit simply because they struggle with the UI and good tutorial system could help eliminate some of that.
