Check the statistics.
They lost half of their population in a month. The water is rushing in and fast.

It hasn't even been out a month yet... it released Dec 20th, and it's only Jan 13th.
The only population loss it has seen is when we went from holidays back to work.

Oh? I thought it has been out 2 months. I guess that's what you get when you're in a country and EA says "U WANT GAME? END OF RINE.".

Well they've had peaks of 800,000 and are now down to 400,000. That's a big drop. And the numbers are only going to get lower when the free month is up.

Yes I suppose if you exaggerate the launch day peak, and compare it to the work day average weeks later they have most certainly lost half their population.Roll But I digress. I'm not a fan of the game and I have mixed feelings about letting my friend talk me into getting it. I'm not going to defend it any more.

when I was watching the video I was wondering if they had pulled a star trek online. hyped it up forever, then made a massive flop that might hang on for a few months to a year before going F2P.

Yes. That is exactly what they did plus blow their whole budget on voice acting and not a single dollar went towards not making a WoW clone.

ya, I called it on being a WOW clone as soon as I saw the first game play video they released about a year and a bit before it came out.

but that's how MMORPG's are done today.

you grab WoW, strip it till the bare bones and slap multi-billion dollar artistic content.

Content is not a word Bioware nor EA have in their vocabulary.

now now, to be totally fair, Bioware did do some good games. ME1 was awesome and DA:O too. The decline started with ME2 wich, while still good, it wasn't that good, and then the relative flop that was DA2 was the continuation of that.

then TOR came and there it is.

it must be said too, that Bioware wasn't a "vanguard" developer too. Their games never were shiny beacons of originality, but they do make some excellent storytelling.

problem about storytelling is, it works awesome when applied to single playing games, but it doesn't work at all when you go multiplayer.; and when applied to game development cycles, you need quite some time dedicated to it so that it comes out fresh.
you don't demand, nor it's possible for, a storyteller to come up with new stories every day.

EA however, I agree with you, and the recent "Origin" thing makes me cringe even moreUgh
