looking forward to the update as well.. Just curious, does he ever pop on to post an update on how things are moving along?

Nope. Never that I've seen. It will be done when it's done and he'll let us know.

Exactly.

The man will post his work when it's finished.

No amount of "we're waiting" posts will hurry that process.

Right ... thats pure BS, but OK.

If 75.000 people would post "we are waiting" that would encourage him for sure. If 1.000.000 people would post he for sure would be so happy about the stunning amount of people liking is app, that he would finish it this night.

So fyou and your "no amount".

This is kind of a useless discussion, but seriously, different things motivate different people. If I got that kind of impatient outcry I'd stuff the whole thing and let one of the teeming masses step up and sort it out. For me, it's nice to be appreciated but only up to the point that it's not a huge demand hanging over my head. That just breeds resentment.

Luckily I'm not the one responsible for the project.

Anyhow, if the past is any indication, Gripen will get it done. When this thread opened 4.5 years ago EFT hadn't been updated in months, Pyfa was taking off, and there was no assurance at all that EFT was going to be continued in any form. Then, boom, we got an update. Given the massive scope of the changes at hand I wouldn't be shocked if this one takes quite some time as well. I'm hoping it gets done soon but I'll damn well appreciate it when it comes out even if it takes a year.

I'm sure Gripen knows that players will be eagerly awaiting an update, there is no need to post 7500 times and come of looking like a petulant child. It will be done when it's done and until then just use pyfa or live without.

Heh. For the record, I do love your work on Pyfa as well. I just... can't get into it the same way. With Zifrian and Desmont McCallock both stepping down from their projects and Battleclinic disappearing there are precious few people left willing to take on these huge hobby-related projects. Nothing but respect that you're still in the game.

I bet he very well knows how many people like his software because most likely he has the download statistics.

Being employed in software development all I can say is:

Quite often those people wanting the product ASAP (read "yesterday") are the first to moan about any bugs that happen due to rushing and "corners being cut".

Knowing people in the software development most people ship the product as soon as the launcher is working and fix bugs later.

You're so naïve and wrong it's not even funny. After many years of keeping something like this up to date, with all the nonsense, changing updates and "why isn't it done yet" replies he's probably this close to going "**** it, why bother" (see EVEmon) and the only reason he keeps doing it because he feels an obligation. What he doesn't need is a bunch of entitled 5 year olds whining about why they haven't gotten their cookie yet.

It's very simple but I'll explain it slowly: It's normal for CCP to implement changes fairly shortly after an update and the bigger, and more extensive, the update the bigger the changes are going to be. As such it doesn't make much sense to adapt it all to the initial release on an update but he'll wait till it's all settled down a bit and then he'll do it. On top the normal stuff this updates requires a whole lot of rewriting because it's not just some juggling with database numbers so there's a lot more effort involved which may require more effort than he's really willing (or capable) to put in.

In short: HTFU

It's done when it's done.

In companies developers don't ship the product. They only develop it.

In most cases you can't blame the developers for being pushed with deadlines they know will make them cut corners.

There is a slight disconnect between development and management. That disconnect is perfectly exemplified by some posts above demanding the new EFT yesterday.
