EVE Online is 13 and with all the crazy celebrations going on, we see a huge influx of new players and veterans returning to EVE.

For the community that would like to help
We would like to call the fantastic EVE community to reach out to our new pilots and show them how awesome EVE Online really is. We have lots of good resources available for new players, but it is YOU, the community, who really brings this undefinable spark of life to this universe and turn it into the crazy Sci-Fi universe that we all love and crave.

If you would like to harness the power of our new pilots, if you enjoy giving a helping hand, or if you just love to be around inspiring new people and get a fresh view of the universe, then sign up your event in the this thread below. Write down what kind of experience you offer (pvp roam, lecture, sightseeing, pve - just to name a few), when (please use EVE time) and where (which system or chat channel). Please note that Rookie Griefing is strictly forbidden.

For new players
If you are a new pilot and want to experience the EVE Universe hands-on from our most experienced pilots, if you don't want to fiddle around but dive right into the action, then pick some of the events listed below.

If you explode in a ball of fire, if you don't survive your first enemy contact, or if you have no clue what is going on, this will be a great experience and not boring!

We also have help center articles, tutorials, video guides and general resources available.

And of course we have our wonderful volunteers from the ISD department helping!

We've already set up a bunch of lectures aimed at brand new players over the weekend.

New player note: All times below are in "EVE time", that's the time in the bottom-left of your EVE client. EVE time is UTC. If you want to figure out what your local time would be, check out this neat gadget.
Generally speaking, if you see EVE players mention a date/time anywhere, they mean EVE time.

Friday, May 6th
23:30 - Tackling 101
New player note: "Tackling" is EVE jargon for the act of pinning down a target and holding him so your friends can kill him with extreme prejudice (also: lasers).

Saturday, May 7th
09:00 - Peeking into Wormholes
13:00 - Tanking 101
New player note: "Tank" is EVE lingo for the defenses of a ship. There is no specific "tank" role akin to other MMOs, so this is relevant to everybody.
18:00 - Amarr Championships Q&A
With the Uni's own Kelon Darklight, the victorious champion of Tash-Murkon.

Sunday, May 8th
16:00 - Bookmarking 101
New player note: "Bookmarking" refers to saving a certain location in space, which allows you to later warp back to it. This class covers various applications of this capability.
19:00 - Game Mechanics Q&A
Ask anything about EVE. Anything. Seamus knows the answer.
20:00 - Introduction to EVE University

Monday, May 9th
18:00 - Fitting 101
New player note: "Fitting" is the act of equipping a module to your ship. This class discusses basic guidelines for creating "good" fits.

Tuesday, May 10th
03:00 - Game Mechanics Q&A
Same as the one on Sunday, except for a different TZ.

All of the above will be hosted on EVE University's Public Mumble Server, which does not require registration and is accessible to everyone, with questions being taken in the Lecture.E-UNI in-game channel.

More to be added as I keep yelling at people to schedule them because newbros, squee.

PS: By the way CCP, your forum redirect warning apparently breaks any link that has an ampersand sign in it.

That kind of advertisement is great. It is most certainly welcome here in this thread.

Thank you!

I think this is a pretty good opportunity to show new players what you do as corp/alliance/organisation and try to get them on board with you. Big smile

We like that idea, so we've also set up a specific channel on our public mumble server that'll be staffed by our orientation department starting immediately where new players can learn more about EVE University, what we do, and how you can join us.

We're hoping to be able to staff this channel throughout the entire weekend.

For any new players reading, here's how you can join.

  1. Download and install Mumble, a VOIP client.
  2. (1a. Recommended: While doing so, set a push to talk key instead of relying on voice activation.)
  3. In the "Connect" dialog, click on "Add New..." and create a server using the following details:
  4. Address: voice.eveuniversity.org
    Port: 64739 (NOT the default)
    Username:your character name
    Label: EVE University - Public
  5. Select the newly created server and click "Connect".
  6. Double-click the "Learn more about EVE University!" channel to join it.

  • Allow fitting of multiple ships at once (i.e. fit slasher tackle x 100)
  • When applying a saved fit to a hull, apply the name of the saved fit to the ship

I understand this isn't a huge deal for the average player, but as one of the people in Horde who fits hundreds of ships every week to hand out to newbeans we could really use some QoL stuff like this.

Welcome to Eve, newbros!

If you are like me when I started playing Eve in 2009, you are entering this game with dreams of space combat, bounty hunting, exploring a complex and player driven new universe and flying awesome spaceships without having to grind through tedious missioning to level up your skills. You are a fighter.

If you join other groups, you will be formatted to fit in molds that those that have started before you have already established. You will become a meat shield protecting their ISK making operations, or you will be milked to mine or produce for their domination efforts. You will be paying taxes on everything you do so that those that hold the power continue to play for free (or sometime not even play at all, except in the metagame) and help perpetuate the hold that the older players with dozens of accounts have on the game by feeding them more income. They older *they* are in the game, the more *they* are like space vampires. To them your new blood is precious, and they want you to join them. Karma, Horde, Dreddit,... all these names will lure you, like a fly on their spider web, before sucking you dry.

I represent the Minarchist revolution in New Eden. We can only offer you a difficult path in a difficult game. In the lore of the game, we fight to free all Minmatars enslaved by the evil Amarr empire. We oppose the collaborationist policies of the Minmatar Republic. We fight a war on taxes. We oppose passive incomes, especially moon mining, and have set a revolutionay path with the goal of bringing the Day of Light to all Minmatars and Freedom in the Galaxy.

With us you will be taught to be independent and self sustaining from the get-go. You will pay no taxes. You will not be required to provide any API (a fake spy control system that can't catch any real corp spies, and instead is used by the NSA-minded space vampires to watch you). We will teach you to explore dangerous space, and survive.

We will train you to become a Freedom Fighter, and you have to understand that this is not a half-assed commitment. Your loyalty will be tested, as any of you can be a spy sent by one of those space vampires. You will have to prove yourself by establishing your own tribe of pilots, and creating bonds that only fighting for a juste-cause can create.

If you have what it takes to truly be independent, and like to fly dangerously, you can help write history and become a force to help change the fate of all Minmatars.

Join our Minarchist revolution.

Apply to our Rogue Operatives training group.

Welcome to EVE, new player - and congratulations on discovering the greatest game ever created.

Brave would like to invite any new players to join our public Mumble server (just click here and sign in using your EVE account) this weekend, where we will be answering questions about any aspect of EVE. Just join the Dojo channel (under General).

Some background information:

The Brave Collective is an alliance that just yesterday celebrated its third birthday. We are the original "new player organisation" - founded on the principle that simply being new to the game shouldn't stop you from participating in the most fun parts: flying in big fleets, living in the most dangerous areas, and shooting at anyone that happens to pass by. Our driving principle is "fun per hour" - if that sounds like something you value in a video game, then give us a shout. We accept players from all backgrounds and skill levels, and make no demands on you for your time or focus. We want you to figure out what is the most fun for you, and then we'll help you to make it happen.

If you join Brave, you'll have access to all of our free programs - skillbooks, ships, implants and more - plus our irregular but fun training fleets and more content than you can shake a POS stick at.

To find out more:

  • Join the "Brave Newbies" chat channel in-game and say hi
  • Join our public Mumble server by clicking here and drop into the Dojo channel (under General) - we'd love to answer any questions you have
  • Read the Brave Wiki for more background and tutorials on many other aspects of EVE

If you're going to play the greatest game ever created, you should join the greatest community that plays it. But, whether you join Brave or not, we look forward helping you out in the Dojo. Drop in and let us give you a helping hand this weekend and beyond!

Be Brave.

Well it's great to see this happening. Thanks to all who are putting in the time to help out the new players.

I just wanna say that your message for new players to reach out to older players has been received by new players.

New players in RUN Corp were asking questions which were answered by a couple of us older players and 4 different new players actually initiated a Private convo with me for more info. One of them was Russian and I gotta say using Google Translate is a pain, I eventually joined the Russian help channel and asked them to invite him to their channel since it was taking me too long to answer his questions.

I gotta say I was a bit surprised at all the action but after seeing this thread and the listing on the Eve Launcher I now know the reason for all the inquires.

It's now after DT and I'm going back in, wish me luck. o7

We just need to stop the Eve community from being so elitist and actually helping new players, Iv'e made over 200 videos on Eve and I'm no were near done yet, not till ive documented everything I can.

But this "welcome to eve, we love your tears" needs to stop.

This awesome. Eve is a complex and daunting game so anything we can do to encourage new pilots to stick around is a good thing. My #1 advice would be to anyone wanting to mine - don't fly a retriever! Also if you want to experience wormhole space we are new player friendly! Convo me or send me a note!
